I think both the Jets and the Saints are ready to deal their players as well as the Raiders getting rid of Woodson (which I've been saying for the last two years at least him not being that good anymore[esp for the money he makes]).
I don't think any of them would expect two firsts for any of them. So they can trade them for any compensation they want if they can get the all the parties involved to agree. That's a difficult thing to do.
If I were a player I wouldn't take less money than the one year guarantee unless I could do better next year or better in a long term contract with another team.
It's hard to get one person to negotiate with successfully much less three.
I don't want Woodson. Definitely would take Howard. Probably John but less so due to injuries. And neither for too much.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

Seems to me the longer this goes on the more likley we will not get Howard.
Now with this plot twist, WHO knows??

I actually think it is the exact opposite. The longer this goes the less we have to pay because no one is meeting their price demands. I believe we are the high bidder and according to the New Orleans newspapers we offered a mid round pick. Doesn't sound like a 2nd rounder to me.

nope..we need to keep shopping for a better deal..
Don't think this is going to happen. There is a reason why the Saints want to dump him. he's over paid. They have gone into the draft over the last couple of years and have younger, less expensive, more upside players to consider.
Doesn't that make sense to try to draft for the position and develop our own talent from within..?
My guess is that part of the reason this whole trade has cooled is that the Cowboys have looked it over and probably feel they have a player or players in the draft that will work on the DL at a much cheaper price or already have a combination of players that will suffice that if a draftee is added, will work just fine.
Or, there is a FA or two that will come available from other teams once they draft new DL guys in this year's draft that will work for us when the June cuts come.
In any event, the Cowboys must leave some cap room free and available for that to happen. So not taking Howard makes alot of sense. And not at the expense of giving them Dat. Or our #2 pick this year.
Any of those options for a player that will be paid in the top 10% of the team without ever playing a down for the team and at the cost of sacrificing a high draft pick that should produce another starter for us somewhere else on the team is too high.
Keep the money in your pocket and continue shopping.
Later.

Well said. My feelings exactly. Let's use our remaining cap space to take care of some depth issues. Let's pickup a FS, let's get a reserve RB, let's pickup another DT or OL.

Yeah, who needs to put pressure on the QB. Silly idea.

I don't want to give up that second. That could be our future Free Safety or Wide Receiver....

Not for a $17 mill signing bonus for a guy 28 years old who hasn't (in my recollection) even made a pro-bowl.

Heck, I think a 2nd is good for Howard...Jerry and Bill are actually doing the right thing from my standpoint. Take a 2nd or Al Singelton...Or we just go into the draft a pick one up.
NO, give a call if either senerio works you, if not, then later...
Be excellent to each other....

Umm.. Michael.. you do know that Howard is 28, right? That's just hitting the prime of their career for a defensive end. Most play effectively into their mid 30's.
You'd rather waste a pick on a player only 4 years younger who *might* be as good as Howard?

As poor as our pass rush has been I would not object to getting Howard with a 2nd rd pick and still draft a top pass rusher in rd 1 of the draft

I dunno folks. I smell something cooking. Jerry and Al are close (business-wise). They're adding some spices to this Howard stew. Howard ain't going no where and the Raiders offering a huge cap hit is hilarious. They're not even serious about it, IMO.
If it were any other team and the owners meeting didn't just take place I'd say we had some competition for Howard. Anyone but Al Davis and I'd take it more serious. They're just trying to create a "sceneario" for NO and force their decision, in hopes of them dropping their asking price. The Howard deal will never happen with what NO wants. I want some youth at this particular position and a guy with a good NECK!!!
AS: Cowboys ice their own kicker in 19-13 OT loss
“That is one of the luxuries of my position as owner as well as the ultimate decision maker, general manager and president – I can do that and take the losses and come back for more,” Jones said.
God help us...............

You guys might as well get over it. We aren't trading our second for Howard.
I would bet a significant amount that Josh Bullocks is targeted with that pick to fill our huge hole at FS.
There is no guarantee of us being able to trade down with either first round pick to secure a selection high enough to get Bullocks so that second is going nowhere.
