Would be happy with either of (i) Spears or Pollack in round one; or (ii) Tuck or Roth in round two. I see a great deal of bust potential in the others.

Merriman, Pollack, or Tuck would be fine by me
but I don't think any of the DEs in this draft will match the production Howard would.
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

Pollack and Spears. Merriman after that.

If we could swing 2 of the 3 in the first I'd be in heaven.

Hesitant on the rest.

Staying 4-3...not crazy about any of them at all.

1. dan cody...my call as a bust
2. david pollack...will be a solid LDE
3. erasmus james...will be a solid LDE
4. marcus spears...will be the best LDE of all
5. bill swancutt...decent
6. matt roth...I think he could be good...kinda like him, but not in first rd.
7. justin tuck...like him to in the 2nd rd.

The issue is...if we stay 4-3...most of the above are LDE...of which I don't see any being any better then Ellis.

If we go 3-4, then Spears is the only one at DE...Tuck at Tweener DE/OLB

If Dallas decided to stay 4-3, I'd much rather trade our second for Howard amd add two other players with first round picks...or gain more pics...

Personally, I prefer the rookie DEs in this order: Pollack, Merriman, Spears, James, Roth, Tuck, Cody.

Merriman has more potential, but Pollack is closer to being a sure thing. Both look like they'll be very productive and versatile players. Can't go wrong here.

Spears is an ideal 3-4 end, and would represent great value at #11 as such, but may not be worth #20 if he's gonna be used in a 4-3, IMHO.

James scares me. Is he the next Freak or the next Ekuban? Classic boom or bust pick, IMO.

Gotta love Roth's motor. He may never be a top-10 pass rusher, but this kid has Greg Ellis/Grant Wistrom written all over him (at least). And that ain't bad.

Tuck is intriguing, but I wouldn't take him before round two. I don't know enough about Cody to form an opinion one way or another, but what I have read leaves me with more potential concern than excitement.

My $0.02 FWIW

Merriman No.1
Spears next, I know he's a LDE, but I think he can be put on the right with the other talent on the line, and grow into the possition. Infuse some youth into the line. I saw someone had said in another post, that Spears reminded them of Leon Lett, same body type- thats what I like to hear!!!
Not interested in James-sorry.

to me the draft is a combination of on the field displays of football ability, potential for development and improvement and character-such as love for the game, respect for the game and others etc and mental capacity as it relates to learning football related skills-reading a defense etc( is he mentally capable of making quick reads at the line-middle linebacker,fs etc)

So having said that- if james had not been injured he would be a top 10 pick- he has good size, strength and when healthy has made great plays on the field.

Travis Johnson has been a consistently good performer for the seminoles-

others have been more productive( see pollack) but they have questions as to size and nfl position-is he an outside backer who is a tad slow or is he a smallish end with good speed-I think he is the former

Tuck would be a VERY nice pick in the 2nd. Or maybe 20 at the highest.

Spears,Merriman,Pollack,or tuck give me at least one dallas and im happy.

Pollack is the top DE in this draft.

If he moves to OLB (in a 3-4) I think he'll end up being the best at that position as well.

Merriman has potential, but he didn't produce as much as you'd expect considering the hype.

James is injury prone.

Cody is overrated and a psychopath (My opinion).

Tuck is another "potential" guy, but he didn't do much last season. He was spectacular two seasons ago.

Roth is a high motor guy. Will probably be a very consistent performer, but will never be "Great."

Spears could be great. I think he'll at least be "Solid." Wouldn't mind taking him at #20 (if he's there) even if we took Merriman or Pollack at #11.
