Don't mean to be patronizing, but you do know that both are LCDs. One used tubes, the other diodes for back lighting.

Wait until you see the OLEDs when they come out, then you will see what expensive is.

But ok yes for getting better color representation and deeper blacks, and also energy efficiency, longevity, better ms response time, etc. LED back lit are superior.

Didn't Sony or Panasonic release an OLED TV a few years back with a tiny screen for some ungodly amount of money?

And they're thinner. The one I have is about 1" thick.

Yeah Sony always like to show off they can do something way ahead of the curve. THey made an 11" OLED it was $2,500. The new ones coming out are 30", 46" I think maybe a 50" but the prices will be pretty high. Main problem with OLEDs were their half-life, they never were that durable, so we will see how this first generation fares.
