Ellis to Linebacker is absurd to say the least.

It's two-fold.
First, it's the copycat thing. It works for NE, so we should do it.
Second, Parcells has always used the 3-4.
Well, NE has the players and the coaches to make it work, NEWS FLASH we don't.
Parcells was always a run first coach then he drafted Bledsoe and passed it 40 times a game.
While I don't agree with all he does, Parcells is smart enough to use his players correctly. He was even recently quoted saying, "You don't just use a scheme to use it, you have to have the players to run it."
Funny how that quote was lost on the 3-4 crowd.

The thing that scares me though is that he might think he can make a go of it with the likes of Fowler, Shanle, Thorton, Ogbogu, etc.

I think we made our decision along time ago to stay 4-3. We kept Zimmer, we added a big DT, we our looking at DEs, we did not even look at any LBs in FA, we just keep floating the old, "We'll wait until the draft," line.
It fits with all the other BS coming out of the ranch this offseason. It's all just a smokescreen.

only if they move Dat to RB and Keith Davis to NT... then you could move Ferg to QB and see if we can fill that FS void with Julius Jones. What! Still need a WR... isn't Kevin DeRonde still on the roster.
I don't believe in team motivation. I believe in getting a team prepared so it knows it will have the necessary confidence

Parcells is SICK of zimmy & his awful passive & predictable "Occupy & engage" never pressure ANYTHING 4-3 and he will be using 3-4 this year, but Ellis is big & strong enough to play the DE in a 3-4 D...
However, zimmy did think of how to get his D even wussier...Adding Billy Cundiff as a "Speedbump" LBer to go with Dat/Gnat

Hey, hold up there Hos. I'm not looking for a switch to the 3-4. Put me squarely on the 4-3 bandwagon with Howard coming here if you want to place me in a camp.
It's just something I read as few weeks back and there was surprisingly little discussion on what seemed like an unusual idea buried within the story. Of course I porbably should have brought it up at the time, but never got around to makig a thread about it. Here's part of the article.

ProFootballWeekly.com asks associate editor Jeff Reynolds for his thoughts on the hottest topics in the NFL....
...The one player that might be a concern to slot within the framework of the defense is Greg Ellis, a long, strong defensive end that projects as a Willie McGinest-type outside linebacker. McGinest is a stronger leverage player than Ellis, who is 6-6, 270, and an overachiever Parcells likes. Leonardo Carson could play the defensive right end position, but the Cowboys need to fill out the defensive line with more depth.

It seemed like a really odd concept to me.

You'll notice that I did write "occasional 3-4" in the initial post. I think thats a foregone conclusion since most teams do play that way from time to time.
It was a simple question. I am not in the "let's go to the 3-4" crowd by any stretch, although I can see how it could have been taken that way.
This article (posted on March 4th) is the nly place I actually saw Ellis as being projected to a LB. Yes, it seemed outlandish to me as well.

Not a problem, just didn't want to get pigenholed in that area. I realize that this little tidbit could have been used in a 3-4 argument. I'm actually surprised someone else didn't pick up on it earlier.

I know, it is so unbelievably old.
Hey, how about this - LaRoi Glover to safety? Larry Allen to wide reciever? How about Roy Williams to defensive tackle?

I personally have not seen an article about moving Glover to safety, Allen to WR or Roy to DT. If there's one out there let me know.
Otherwise you might want to read the post before making assumptions.

I wasn't necessarily talking about you personally Erik. It just seems crazy to me that people think football positions are cut and paste. In some instances players change positions and it fits better. Those things are rare. It just seems counter productive to me to take someone good at a position (notice I said good not great) and put them out of their element.
It's the off season and it seems to be a theme this year.
