TheCount's 1st Post-Combine Mocks: Poe or DeCastro?
Decided it might be fun to see how the draft may go with either Poe or DeCastro as our first pick. I don't mock with trades, so don't let the fact that I'm picking both at 14 put you too far out.
For both drafts, these are my reasonable key free agents:
Terrell Thomas, CB - He's still flying completely under the radar.
Anthony Spencer, OLB - Yeah, trust me, I know.
Laurent Robinson, WR - If the price is right, bring him back.
The DeCastro Mock
Round 1 - David DeCastro, OG, Stanford
There's probably a reason the saying isn't, "Take the best player available, unless he's a guard."
Round 2 - Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame
Mayock and Deion slobbered all over the guy and we happen to have a big need at SS, that's mostly gone ignored.
Round 3 - Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida
Ran a monstrous 4.33 at the combine and has special teams value.
Round 4 - Phillip Blake, C, Baylor
Ben Jones is still my favorite C in the draft, but Blake represented himself well. Would have liked to see more bench reps.
Round 5 - Akiem Hicks, DE, Regina
Had an okay combine, but I still like him as a DE. Weighed in less than I expected, which is a good thing.
Round 6 - James Hanna, TE, Oklahoma
Right now, probably more athlete than tight end but we can make that work.
Round 7 - Miles Burris, OLB, San Diego State
I had to get my pet cat in here, he had a fantastic combine. I don't even think he'll be available in the 7th at this point. 6'2' 246lbs, 31 reps, 37.5 vert, 10.01 vert but didn't do agility drills.
The Poe Mock
Round 1 - Dontari Poe, NT/DE, Memphis
Put on a heck of a display in Indy. Still has his detractors, and perhaps rightly, but the whole "he doesn't get sacks" thing is beyond ridiculous.
Round 2 - Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State
One of my Top 3 guard prospects, and honestly, I may prefer him to Glenn.
Round 3 - George Iloka, SS, Boise State
showed great at the combine. Mayock talked about how good his hips were, especially for a guy his size.
Round 4 - Phillip Blake, C, Baylor
Blake makes sense at this point, regardless of who we take in the 1st.
Round 5 - Evan Rodriguez, H-Back, Temple
With the way we like to use our TE's, Rodriguez stands a real chance at contributing immediately. Had a pretty good combine.
Round 6 - Donnie Fletcher, CB, Boston College
Good at a lot of things but not great at anything. Fletcher has good size at 6'1" and pretty decent ball skills, unfortunately he was part of a terrible defense.
Round 7 - Miles Burris, OLB, San Diego State
My pet makes a return in the Poe mock. Did I mention I like him?
I think I prefer the DeCastro mock. Thoughts?
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.
