Default Warming up to Barron

I'm not sure if he's on our radar or not, but if he is, I am ok w him at 14

I think many fans are pre judging him and aren't giving him a chance... I think he is much better in coverage than most think and his intangibles are off the charts.

Not my top choice at 14..but I wouldn't complain

I'm not in the 1st round. Gotta be pass rush or O Line. Anybody in the secondary has to have shut down ability in the 1st round. He doesnt.

I think Barron would be a great trade down possibilty (although I think it's unlikely). This year's safety class is poor, but that shouldn't be a reflection on Barron who is a legitimate 1st round prospect (25-32 range), and would be in any draft IMO. I compare Barron favorably to Kenny Phillips.

My first mocks I had him going #14. Then I saw DeCastro a bit more and I switched.

My negatives of him is not coverage, like alot of folks were complaining about at the begining. I think he'll be fine there. My problem is that, for a SS, he's not a " big hitter " and that's fine with me because I think he'll make a hell of a FS in the pros. Oddly enough, reminds me a little of another ex-Bama/ex-Cowboy:

George Teague.

Many mocks have him going in the 14-17 range, so it's not completley out of the realm of possiblity.

I really want to like Barron, but I just don't. He doesn't look smooth at all to me.

I agree that's he's underrated by a lot of people around here. He's more pro ready than any other safety in the draft, and he was actually quite productive. I don't know if I want him at 14 though, I think there will be better players available.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

I wouldn't want him at #14 either, but in a trade down scenario he becomes a legit candidate.

I think any of the highly rated Alabama players would be realistic considerations. All of them have talent, leadership and great coaching.
Garrett to players: Make today a great day; go about the business of winning! If you can't keep up then don't step up.

Barron will fill what seems to be a perpetual need but my questions are:

Is he BPA at that position?

Is he being unfairly discounted because of an overall weak safety class?

All the Alabama guys are tough to draft because are they great players or do they only look great because they are lined up next to other great players? I do know their corners get a ton of safety help in that scheme. They also did not play many (any?) pro quarterbacks outside of Bray at Tennessee who was injured and maybe Wilson at Arkansas.

Yes, that's exactly what's going on with Barron.

I think people keep hearing that this is a weak safety class (which it is) and assume Barron is relatively mediocre prospect like the rest of them. He isn't though. Barron would be a 1st round prospect in any of the past drafts IMO. I think he's your classic backend of the 1st round type prospect.
