And we'll offer you that first, or Dat and the second...

When donkeys fly... the leverage is all on the Cowboys' side here, and they can easily walk away from this deal if the asking price is too high...

If Jerry was inclined to play it stupid, the deal would already have been made... but hey, keep on dreaming...

I don't care what anyone on this board says, I'd give you Dat and a second just to take Dat away, then I'd work a trade for Howard entirely separately.

I want Darren Howard, but your asking price is too high.

Much appreciation.

Jerry's playing this pretty well. I still think a deal will go down but for a 2006 pick instead of this year. Maybe a player or 2 thrown in.

I really dont see the Saints taking a pick next year. This is a do-or-die year for Haslett and he must win now. Playoffs or Bust!!!! So a pick next year wont really help Haslett. Howard is worth it and really I'm not real high on Dat either. Dont get to see him as much as ya'll but do see he puts up good numbers. I would rather us deal with the Raiders and get Buchanon and a pick. But I think this is gonna open up talks again with us.

Actually, our leverage is that the Saints need to get rid of Howard in order to achieve their offseason goals... they can choose to keep him, of course, but at the cost of leaving a number of holes in the roster unfilled...

There are other players out there for the Boys to pursue, players who might not be quite as good as Howard but who also won't cost near what he would... Marques Douglas comes to mind...

And of course, the news regarding Pryce today might well just be posturing on the part of the Broncos, trying to jack up the asking price after they didn't get any whiffs the first time around...

Well, THAT would be an uncommonly stupid move on the part of the Saints; they're looking to move Howard to clear some cap room for more moves on their part, I really can't see them trading off Darren's rather large salary for Buchanon's also-considerable salary...

Marquis who?????? Holes? The way you said that is like we are infested with holes? Did you not whatch the game last year? We looked pretty good towards the end of the season. During the last 6 games of the year we were only giving up 318 yards per game and thats good enough for 10th in the league. Also forcing 16 turnover over that span. Its O.K. to admit it, the Saints are gonna be good this year!!!

Anyway, I'm not sure what Buchanon is making, but I think he is still on his rookie contract, while Howard is on his second term of the Franchise Tag. So the money would be a big difference in our favor. I cant ever get the NFLPA site to work right to find out.

I would have no problem with that at all! He was the lone spark on our defense for awhile and he will be missed on the field and in the locker room. I know ya'll have heard LaRoi talking him up and I think i read something about Newman even saying something about him???????

Our leverage has always been the draft. Chances of us picking up a 4-3 DE or enough OLBs to switch to the 3-4 are much better than you guys getting a pick from us this year for Howard. Then the Saints will be sitting on Howard for another year, only to release him outright next offseason when he's another year older and likely with lower sack totals due to fewer opportunities.

They aren't going to franchise him again and they aren't likely to commit to a long-term contract that could defer enough money to fit financially. They've already replaced him. The Saints are stuck.

I'm not sure the guy in Denver was ever on the radar.

Not on the radar??? Thats crazy!!!! And speaking of uncommonly stupid moves....so the the Tuna would rather build through the draft????? Wow there is something thats not on the radar. Who is bluffing? Why do some of the fans try to degrade Howard to try to convince ME that he's not worth it? I have seen him play. Listen to others that have. He would be well worth your second first round pick. Who are you gonna get at that pick thats gonna get you 10 sacks a year, at leats with the rest of your awesome line.

16 mill. bonus
6 years
about 35 million

Thats not a lot for a top ten DE in the league.

It all comes down to wether BP thinks the DE's in the draft can be in the ballpark with Howard in terms of pass rush. If not ,I say cave and pony up the #1. If some of these rookies can come in and give us 10 or so sacks in year one(doubtful) hold out and draw the line at the #2 and maybe a lesser pick next year, but not Dat too.
