David Garrard to Dolphins
I take that to mean Alex Smith stays in San Fran.

He has what, one good year?
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Called this yesterday. I pretty much just remembered he didn't retire yet and put two and two together. They will draft someone, but Henne is gone, so it's really just Matt Moore under contract. You have to bring someone in.

David Garrard took the Jags to within 20 yards of an AFC Championship game against the 2007 vaunted Patriots.

Poor 49ers not only did they lose out on Manning but now they have to keep Smith.

God, I'd hate to be a Dolphins fan. Those guys are running in place, fast.
Garrard was a really underappreciated QB for a while in JAX, but coming off of back surgery, I don't know.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but Alex Smith gets a bit of a bum rap, too. He can't throw downfield on the move to save his life, but he knows how to control the ball, and he's working with some pretty weak talent out there in that wideout group.
With Vincent Jackson, Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, and DeSean Jackson available, I'm not sure Mario Manningham does enough for SF for next year. He's a good signing, but they need more WR help. I'm really surprised they didn't make a stronger play for Chaz Schilens.

I always thought Garrard was solid but I don't know how much he has left in the tank, especially using Miami's talent (or lack there of).

Who are their wideouts? I know they have Davon Bess, but who after that?

I dunno. Michael Crabtree isn't really a bum. I'd say the combo of Crabtree and Manningham is actually pretty good.
