Witten while still great is slowing down imo. How many key 1st downs did we see him not get because of his choice of angle. I love the guy and he will be here at least another 3-4 years but we do need someone at the position who can stretch the seam. If not Fleener than I want L Green in Rnd 3.

This is just so wrong. Witten is not slowing down. He is 29 years old. You propose replacing him with Fleener? You want someone to stretch the seam, get a slot receiver.

Yes he is still young but he his body has been through a lot of wars. I am not suggesting that Fleener replace anyone. Fleener would be our 2nd TE in our two TE offense which I believe Jason would like to continue. Jason can continue to be the star TE, I am just suggesting that another TE that would provide another threat to the defense would go a long way in this offense.
I do not believe the Boys will go with DeCastro after what they have done in FA, they will look to add another guard/center after rnd 1.

Just to understand, you would take Fleener instead of DeCastro or Upshaw?

I'd be fine wih him in the second round, but we need an interior lineman or a NT in the first IMO.

Okay, you just waved your "I'm a member of the Fleener Weiner Fan Club" flag. There is NO way short of a catastrophic injury that any TE in this draft would come in and start over Jason Witten. To think otherwise is to let the insanity win. Heck, if he gets into the first round, it will be sneaking in on the last couple of picks. I have him graded as #36 overall currently, so it's more likely he'll go in the top 10 picks of the second round.
I will agree that they'll bring in another TE. They're going to have three on the roster, in all likelihood. But this year's draft class is rather pitiful at the position, so I doubt they'll look to address it until, at best, the third round, and likely later than that. When and if they do, it will likely be more of a blocking specialist, not a pass-catching threat like Fleener. If someone like that doesn't fall in their laps in the later rounds, they'll pick up a free agent for a year to fill the gap and look at it again next year.

No No No
we need to focus on OL and Defense. We should be filling TE through Free Agency.....No to TE in the 1st Round I would rather sign Dallas Clark LOL

I think Fleener would start because our base offense would be a 2 tight end set. This kid is an offensive weapon and matchup nightmare. He's alot like Hernandez without the drug problems. With he and Murray and Witten in the game at the same time the defense would not know whether you are going to pass or run and whether they should bring in nickle, dime or base defense.
These tight ends that play like wideouts and safeties that play like corners and backs that play like slot receivers are changing the game. There are only 4 or 5 of each of those and I'd love to have one. As much as I want to improve the defensive line or get a great pass rusher at olb, I would not be mad if we had one of these matchup nightmare guys.

Picking a TE would tell me they are not expecting to compete this season.

You're assuming that either of them would be there when we pick. What if they aren't? You're also assuming that we have those two rated ahead of Fleener. DeCastro, sure. Upshaw, not so sure. And the original post proposed the idea of trading back into the low 20's. DeCastro and Upshaw will most likely be gone by then. Now, if one of those is available (and you really like them) at 14, then if we traded down just to get another pick, and to draft someone like Fleener, I'd be disappointed. But that's not the point I was making. Regardless of where we pick, say the boys in the draft room love a guy like Fleener, but are lukewarm on the best available player at another position (like CB, DE, OLB, G/C etc). I'd rather them go with the best player on the board, than reach for someone just because he plays a certain position.
There's always more to the story.

Wulfman, Show me where I said that Fleener would start over Witten. I never did and you won't find it.

You said he'd start. Generally you consider one TE in the starting lineup.
It was an easy and reasonable assumption. I know you'll respond back with two TE sets and you might be right about that.
Me? I'm not fixated on first year production in terms of the draft. I don't care about fits as much as talent and future. Witten's on the downside of his career, the Patriots just had tremendous success with two TEs. Fleener wouldn't be a bad pick at all. Especially for a great offensive mind like Jason Garrett.
He'll need to work on his blocking though. He enters the league very one dimensional but what a dimension it is these days.
