OLB in the draft...
If we want to draft one, we'd best do it early...
I'd be happy with Whitney Mercilus in the first...
I'd be happy with Vinny Curry or Shea McClellin in the second...
I'd be happy with Bruce Irvin in the third...
I think any one of these four could contribute to the Boys as rookies...

I'm sorry but curry doesn't excite me at all, he looks like a 4-3 DE to me.

I don't think any of them replaces Spencer. Not this year, anyway.

I think next year is a better year for OLB.
That's why I think DL/secondary/OL/TE will be the focus in this draft.

I think McClellin could replace Spencer pretty soon.

We don't need any of them to replace Spencer this year (I actually think McCellin would be able to, if required, though I don't think he'll be there in the second). The real question is whether one or more of them could bolster the pass rush in nickel packages this year while learning to become a three-down player.

If he was used as a pure pass rusher, then maybe. But, the SOLB has to cover a lot. Can he cover? When he comes in, does the other team realize the potential for mismatch and pick on him? An upgrade over Butler, maybe, but not Spencer.

Coverage may not be McClellin's forte, but he certainly has the athleticism to drop back into coverage and showed the ability to do so at Boise State. If there's a concern I would have, it's with his strength, but that can be corrected.

Don't get me wrong, I like McClellin and would have loved him in the second, but that ain't happening. I wouldn't take him in the first because he can't start and contribute right away. We don't need another guy that needs a year in the weight room to be ready. We need players now.

I've been trying to get some feedback on the prospect of drafting Nevada's Brett Roy and making him a full-time strong-side outside linebacker.
Anybody else have any thoughts on the player?

"I don't understand it Stephen, it's opening day 2014, where is everybody?"

I was thinking of the exact same thing earlier today.
He's really versatile in that in college he's lined up at DT, DE, ILB, and OLB.
The issue is that he weighs around 275 lbs, so he's going to have a tough job playing DT in the pros.
On the other hand, he could possibly play SOLB in a 34.
He is a player the Cowboys have showed some interest in as well. He's got good production in college, plays with real intensity, etc.
I think he'd be a 5th or 6th round prospect.
