Default Alex Barron Trade Value For Cowboys At #11?

With a few teams behind Dallas looking at OT what do you think the odd's are that one of these teams may try to make a move to land Barron with the Cowboys pick at #11?

#13 Houston Texans-The Texans may look to jump ahead of the Chargers who are a possibilty to land Barron. The Texans have 2 3rd round picks and one of those is a pick they got from the Cowboys for Henson. We know these teams can work together from the Henson deal.

#14 Carolina Panthers-The Panthers are another team looking for a OT opposite Jordan Gross. Once again, a drop of only 3 spots could land Dallas that missing 3rd round pick.

#19 St. Louis Rams-It's a pretty big drop from 11 to 18 but the Rams will be looking for help opposite Pace. The Rams also have 2 3rd round picks and one early being the Miami pick. It will cost more then a 3rd but the Rams have the picks to make the move.

#21 Jacksonville Jaguars-This might be to big of a drop to pull off but the Jaguars are desperate for OT help. Mike Pearson has a serious knee injury last year and Whitfield left via FA. The Jaguars don't really have a OT to speak of. It would be a risky move for Dallas but could bring a nice bounty of picks this year and what Jerry seems to covet, a few future picks.

The move to 13 or 14 would be the best situation. Pick up that extra 3rd and pick Ware or Williamson.

But if we did move down to say #19, the Rams would have to cough up their #2(according to the trade value chart) and then we could deal that to the Saints for Howard. At #19, Ware might be there.

If Merriman, Johnson, and Williams are off the board trading down becomes a very real possibility. And I for one wouldn't be opposed to dropping all the way to #19.

I would jump on that deal in a heart beat! Keep our 2 first and our second plus pick up a quality DE.

I like that thinking. A couple of things though.

1. I'm afraid now that Ware very likely will be gone by then. There's talk of him at 11 and if that's the case he might be off the board by 19.

2. If Parcells thinks Howard can play 3-4 DE then that's fine... we could play Howard at DE and Ware at OLB... but if we stay 4-3 because we get Howard, then we won't be needing Ware because he definately isn't a 4-3 OLB... he's a 3-4 OLB/standup rush end.

Merriman isn't worth an 11... Johnson isn't the type of LB Parcells likes and I don't see us taking Williams. So a trade is very likely.

thats the deal i would try and make under this scenario, and re-coup our 3rd rounder back from Houston!

That sounds familiar.................I posted this idea in the "What would you do at DE" Thread on 4/8/05 at 12:22pm

"Trade down from #11 to #19 with St. Louis if Alex Barron is still on the board when we are on the clock. The Rams have ammo to make trades since they have a 1st, a 2nd, two 3rds, two 4ths, a 5th, two 6ths and three 7ths. They need a tackle badly since Turley is no longer there and most mocks have them taking Jamaal Brown at 19 so why not take the best OT in the draft and pair him with Pace. The 11th is worth 1250pts and the 19th is worth 875pts they would owe us 375 for equal value to be met. Their 2nd is #50 and worth 400pts. making that a total of 1275pts for the #19 and #50 picks in exchange for #11, to balance out the trade we should give them our 7th which is worth 20 something points. This way we would have two 1sts and two 2nds."

Glad you guys liked my train of thought.

I agree we you Merriman is not likely to be the best value at 11. There are some who would not agree with that assessment.

I agree DJ is not a top 11 pick and is not a good fit for Dallas IMO.

I don't agree we would not take Williams if he is there at 11. But I could be easily wrong. Also Williams at 11 would be fine trade bait. That is a scenario I see us trading picks down for someone to pick him there or take him and then trade.

I see Matt Jones as a faster and bigger M Williams although less proven. In the end I think both will prove to be great players in the NFL. I'd rather have Jones and more picks than Williams at 11. But I'd take Williams at 11 if I had no suitors to trade with.

JMO.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

So why trade him to the Rams when we could trade the #11 to the Saints for Howard and the #16......

If we trade the #11 to the Rams, I would ask for their 1st this year and next.... and maybe a 4th this season.......

Because the difference(between 11 and 19) is only about 350 points. Unless the Rams are stoned, no one in their mind would do that deal.

Depending on who is available, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Cowboys look at Barron.
