Fans disconnected from front office thinking.
Why is it that the fans seem to be the only ones placing a premium on a true 3-4 NT, and the Dallas personnel office doesn't take the opportunities that seem to be there?
A potential Haloti Ngata (not an exact replica, of course) drops to the 3rd, and the Cowboys do not flinch, they add a 3-4 DE.
What's missing here???

Fans are stupid. Ratliff is still productive and has a few more years left in him. Plus, they seems to love Brent.

Could it be that Rob Ryan knows more about his defense than any of us do?
"Can we get Drew Bledsoe back out here just for a week, so you guys can fall back in love with Tony? Let's sign Drew Bledsoe back for a week. Because sometimes when you have a pretty girl for so long, you forget how pretty she is. But when you put an ugly girl next to her, 'Oh, no, I'm really doing well.' And maybe we need to bring Drew back, so we can back to 'Oh, no, we're really doing well.'"

truth is most of the "true" NT fans clamor for end up amounting to nothing.

They were looking for this years version of JJ Watt, the one that got away last year. (Yes, I was 100% behind Tyron Smith) Talking about what they are thinking.

Huh? I can only assume you are speaking about Ta'amu right? If so, Ngata and Ta'amu are completely different type of players.
Ta'amu can only play NT. Ngata is a far superior athlete and pass rusher, and can line up anywhere on DL.
"Our guys are gonna be good, and we know it. So that ain't talkin'. That's just the (bleepin') way it is."

Wanting a NT does not make you stupid and it doesn't mean you think Ratliff sucks or is washed up. We need to collapse pockets, that has nothing to do with Ratliff's pro bowls. Whatever needs to be done, even if it means selecting Crawford, do it.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Correctamundo.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

thinking a ngata clone is still around in r4 tho probably is.
i like alameda in r4 but he is a 1 or 2 down player; ngata is an every down guy who can play DE or NT. the only guy close to ngata is brockers which is why he went so high. these other guys dont have that athleticism. they are just big.
we have josh brent for big.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

One of the things you're missing is Ngata has been a lifelong 3-4 DE. Terrence Cody is the Ravens nosetackle, and before that it was Kelly Gregg.

I'll break it down for you simply. Ratliff is a Pro Bowl nosetackle because he has incredible quickness and explosion off the ball, and is able to gain an advantage on slow footed guards and centers. People play guard and center because they're too slow to play tackle. Moving Ratliff out to DE makes him play against quicker footed DEs, which means you've just neutralized our best interior lineman and made him a JAG for the sake of plugging in a worthless fat tub of goo who also can't put any pressure on the QB. Congrats, you've somehow managed to make a bad pass rushing defensive line even worse. High five.

It should be pointed out that just because fans may be stupid, it doesn't mean the team isn't. The two concepts can exist at the same time.
We're the only 3-4 with a 300 lb NT. No, Dallas has it right. It's all them other teams that are doing it wrong.
