Cowboys Roster Moves: Linebacker Cut, Fullback, Punter And Defensive End Added

The Cowboys have made some initial roster moves following last weekend's rookie minicamp. Tom Ryle wrote in last night's post that the Cowboys had cut linebacker Brashton Satale earlier on Monday. Satele was cut by the Jets after training camp last year and was signed by the Cowboys on Jan. 12 this year. Satele had been a part of the offseason conditioning program, but that apparently didn't help him keep his spot on the roster.

The move left the Cowboys with 87 players on the roster and three empty spots, which they promptly filled with the following three players:
•Jamize Olawale, FB, North Texas: Olawale was brought in on a tryout basis over the weekend, and it looks like the Cowboys liked what they saw. The 6-0, 235 Olawale was listed as a wide receiver at North Texas, but he impressed the Cowboys staff at fullback.
•Delbert Alvarado, P/K, South Florida: Alvarado is a familiar name at Valley Ranch as he was on the Cowboys' roster for two months in the summer of 2010. This year, he will compete with Chris Jones and Dan Bailey for the Cowboys' punting and kickoff duties. Alvarado was a place-kicker in college, so he could also be used as a backup for field goals and extra points.
•Ben Bass, DE, Texas A&M: The 6-4, 285 Plano native impressed along the defensive line with his high motor. Bass is so much of an under-the-radar prospect that I had to ask our good friend Long Ball for some info on him. This is what Long Ball said: "Outstanding prep career at Plano West High School (saw him play a few games) and was in a recruiting "tug-of-war" between OU and A&M . . . went to Aggie-land and had a so-so career, hurt more by lack of talent on defense as much as anything. Has an NFL-ready body for a 3-4 DE at 6'4" and 285, quick off the snap, needs to be coached up on recognition."
