U.S. Army makes gun that fires lightning
http://rt.com/usa/news/laser-lightning-us-army-623/
The Laser-Induced Plasma Channel (LIPC) cannon is currently being tested at Picatinny Arsenal, a key US Army research complex in New Jersey.
"We never got tired of the lightning bolts zapping our simulated targets," says George Fischer, who heads the research team.
The charge is created by emitting a laser pulse that charges the air, and forms a hugely destructive bolt of lighting.
"If a laser puts out a pulse with modest energy, but the time is incredibly tiny, the power can be huge," says Fischer. "During the duration of the laser pulse, it can be putting out more power than a large city needs, but the pulse only lasts for two-trillionths of a second."

If I could zap anything with lightning, it would probably be a Ford Taurus to.

So those pesky, disease-ridden mosquitoes should soon be a thing of the past as this is eventually brought online for purchase by common, everyday citizens. Good. THE zapper of all zappers has finally been developed... 'bout time.
Can I get one in a patio-sized version?

This is not new. I've been using these since June 22, 1996.

There is a good chance that you don't like me, but there is a better chance that I don't care.
If I'm not insulting you, I'm probably not aware that you exist.
Jerry Jones in the draft room is suicide on the football field. The line of scrimmage is EVERYTHING. Something Jerry doesn't understand.

I loved them both. DOOM had awesome sounds. When you were fighting that last boss, the sounds would spook you as you got near him. You could feel the DOOM coming!
Quake on the other hand, took the actual playing of the game to a new level. A true 3D experience vs DOOM that only gave a weak perspective of viewing the game in 3D.

it was revolutionary in '93 though, three years back then was enough time for two major leaps in technology.

It was the multi-player aspect to Quake that made it better than Doom. Doom single player was awesome Doom and you could play modem to modem, but Quake you could play with lots of people on the Net. That was the true birth of the FPS multi-player gameplay revolution that is still alive and well today in games like COD and BF3.

Sam I Am with his lightning gun in 1996:

"The ball ain't heavy."
-Herschel Walker, when asked if he got tired carrying the ball 30 times per game.
