I'm not a fan of him in the least.
However if he shows improvement I'll gladly acknowledge it and be very happy that he did improve.

Yeah, I should probably stressed that I was shocked and disappointed we made no effort to bring in competition at OC this offseason, too.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Give me the above average CBs anytime. It's only in the CZ time-warp that that's even a question fans aren't embarrassed to ask, and only then because Risen Star is playing with you guys and you don't understand that he's not serious when he tries to make the case that the coverage doesn't matter.

I didn't leap to any conclusion. The 30th ranking has been common knowledge on this board for several months. You must have missed the 20 or so threads that the ranking was discussed. I can't take credit for the ratings. They are not an invention that I came up with. Costa's ceiling may be 16th. IMO it is closer to 28th. If you want a center that has a ceiling of average, you have lower expectations than I do. One thing is for certain, he is not the only olineman on this team with below average talent.
The CB comment was joking with Risen. I am one of the few on this board that agrees with many of his opinions. After getting to know him, I understand his positions very well and have defended many of them.

I don't think he'll be able to overcome his short arms and lack of great balance/movement skills. The short arms make it difficult for him to keep good defensive linemen from controlling him and the balance issue makes him inconsistent in getting on linebackers, without falling down. Strength and technique are not his problems.
That being said, players with handicaps in their games have been able to overcome them before, so I'm always willing to be proven wrong by smart, try-hard guys. I just wish Dallas was better prepared for him proving to be what some of us believe him to be. Costa being the starter by default would not be a good thing.
"'Room' always makes me chuckle. That's irrelevant. What we have on a given day really doesn't relate to what you're ultimately going to have and how you're going to manage."

Yeah, I would STILL hate him. I just dont like a guy doing a great job on the field for my team. Same goes for Romo. I just hate the guy, no matter what. Although I want the Cowboys to win another SB, I absolutely want Romo to suck while doing so.....Costa too! SMH.
Life is like being a Cowboys fan. You never know what ya gonna get.

This is my take.
Personally, I think his physical limitations will limit his ceiling to something probably not much better than an average player, and this year I would definitely settle for average seeing that we don't have a lot of players to pick from there, but I still want the team to look for another option next season.

It would depend on how much improvement he shows.

A better question is how you could be on this board long enough to have a ton of posts yet not see how there is a distinct element on this board who care more about being right about a player than whether the guy helps the team or not

There's no correcting Costa, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make the 53 man roster. Seriously.

Why do I picture some guy with short, stubbly arms playing football?

Don't you understand that it was Costa's fault that Austin showed up out of shape, Bryant didn't learn the playbook, Murray was injured, Fiametta couldn't stay healthy, age finally caught up to Kosier and Smith hit the rookie wall and struggled the second half of the year.
He's evil I tells ya.

How many times do we need to see the ball snapped over Tony's head before some fans realize Costa stinks?
I'm convinced he can't play center in the NFL. If he proves me wrong, oh well, it won't be the first time I've been wrong about a player, but I doubt that Costa with be this good player that so many fans want him to turn out to be.

Felt the same about Gurode at one time as he would air mail snaps or snap it to low but it got better. I don't know how Costa will fair we will have to wait and see. I think the poor snaps early on last year had a negitive impact on him as his focus became more on getting the snap down and less about firing off the ball

Good point about Gurode, but If I had to choose between the two, Gurode wins hands down.

I'm not saying I would not take Gurode, I just think people are being very quick to write Costa off. Last year was his 2nd in the NFL and he was thrown out there to start and yes he struggled but often times you can learn from your struggles more than you can from your success. I fully expect to see competition for the starting centers job but would not be shocked to see a much improved Costa in camp
