Default ESPND: Danny Coale not cleared to practice

IRVING, Texas -- When Cowboys’ rookies, first-year players, quarterbacks and selective veterans report to Valley Ranch for pre-training camp practices, the team will have to continue to wait to get its top five draft picks on the practice field at the same time.

Wide receiver Danny Coale, the fifth-round pick, will not be cleared to practice until early August because of a stress fracture in his foot that required surgery in May. Coale suffered the injury on the first organized team activity May 22, and the recovery time is eight weeks.

The good news, however, is that their top four picks have been cleared.

What a shame. I admit I'm a little disappointed to read this news.

Based on the early optimistic reports/ hopeful outlooks offered up, I wanted to believe Coale would be ready to go for the start of TC. Danny continues to have his work cut out for him.

Still think he survives the cut process, when all is said and done, but he likely won't suit up on game days as quickly as he would have sans the injury.

Glad to read the positive news about our top four draft picks, though.

The entire draft class is off to a slow start, hope the rest of these guys can stay/get healthy through real camps.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Early August is like a week after camp starts. It won't be that big of a deal. It doesn't help... but it shouldn't hurt his development that much.

Well, without training camp it is going to be difficult for him to find playing time later. I'd rather him be hurt later frankly.

I'm thinking this has more to do with the safety of others.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Wow, get this guy outta town. What a loser, bum is slacking on his rehab program. He doesn't care. Heck, he probably won't even play this year!

No doubt they're actually letting Claiborne heal a little more before having to cover The Danny.

Opinion

I think Holmes is the better talent anyways... I think Coale could be a good special teams contributor though.

Your Danny Coale commentary is stellar.

I'm assuming you're considering a scenario involving the exact same injury and recovery. Injuries are unpredictable. If Coale's injuries this year are limited to what has him presently sidelined solely, he will have sufficient time to make some measure of impact in 2012 (if possible). If any rookie is sidelined by an injury after the start of training camp, the uncertainly of how much they will contribute in 2012 goes up way higher. The sooner that any player deals with an injury, the better it is for his team.
