Star Aubrayo Franklin is still a free agent and is a true Nose Tackle

Is still a free agent and is a true Nose Tackle that could be a plug up the middle. Cowboys need a true Nose Tackle and I don't see that in either Ratliff nor Brent, but Brent is bigger tho, but we need 330, a plug. What are your thoughtS?

Isn't Franklin the nose guard the Ravens drafted, who then turned around and drafted Haloti Ngata as his replacement a couple of seasons later?

He was very good in 2009, but his play has slowed down significantly. He's really only a run-stopper at this point, and our run defense was fine last year. In the event that the preseason shows otherwise he could be worth a look, but until then the play that Ratliff bring to the field far outweighs Jay not being a "conventional" 3-4 nose.

Yes. But he was taken in the 5th round and Ngata is/was a beast.

True, but shouldn't we be looking for a beast to play nose guard along with Ratliff and Brent? Where's the value if he's just another guy?

Yes. But if we have a beast NT, we should be playing Rat at DE.

If he's so good, why is he available?

Ratliff's not moving. If a Franklin is brought in, it would be to supplement the nose guard position along with Ratliff and/or Brent. And Franklin isn't a beast at the position.

My thoughts exactly. Franklin isn't good enough to supplant Rat. I think he could be in the mix as a DE. I like Brent better as back-up NT. Then again, we have a ton of DEs.

If his career is any indication, Franklin has about as much chance of playing at defensive end somewhere in the league as I do. He's a nose tackle who has underachieved virtually his entire career. I highly doubt that defensive coordinators expect much change from him at this stage of his career--even as a backup defensive lineman.

That actually fits this situation. I know if Ratliff or Brent were available, they would have multiple teams trying to sign them.

didn't you just suggest that we should sign haynesworth. not frankling. and neither of these guys did anything in the past few years worth noting. yet you think they would come here and make us better. why don't we just go after russell maryland.

and in your opinion wieght is all that matters. so wouldn't any 330 pounder do? and if that's the case, why not just grab somebody who is 360 pounds, it would be that much bette. or perhaps, we just fill a plastic doll with cement, it would weight 400 pounds and put tha tin the middle.

give me a break dude.

WHAT?!?!!?

We got gashed up the middle a number of times, especially late in the game. The stats aren't there because we were so terrible in pass defense, it hid the fact that we were middle of the road in run defense.
