Star Trades that could/should be contemplated

I see some teams hold on to players thinking they will work out somehow from injuries, last year of contract, great potential, etc. Many, and probably most, never become that player a team had hoped for. You see some of the intelligent and good teams make moves early in the process to trade these players instead of just letting them complete their contract and then get nothing for them except possibly a compensatory pick. You see this more often in Baseball. Of course these trades, for player or draft pick, should only be attempted if you have someone to competently replace the player moved. There must be other teams that have an interest.

Do the Boys have players that fit this scenario? I think so.

Felix Jones--a late round draft pick 5-6th

Miles Austin-- 2nd round pick or straight up trade

Anthony Spencer--2nd round pick or straight up trade

Two or more of these players could be bundled together to make a mega trade.

I think Mike Jenkins could fall into this category by the 6th week, but feel we need him now and possibly the whole season.

All teams, organizations and most people that are successful is because they are/were proactive instead of reactive. I feel being reactive has had a large part to do with the Boys lack of success. Think Center position.

If not now then strongly consider before the trade deadline in the 6th or 8th week.

Your thoughts. Any other players you would add to the list?

They would probably get a 4th comp pick for losing Felix. Your trade would then net minus 1 round plus a year without the player.

I don't think you could get a cup of coffee for Felix right now.

Don't believe any of those players will be moved.

I could see Spears getting traded to a 4-3 team for a late round pick.
1. Brandon Magee will beat out Ernie Sims for the backup WILL/MO roster spot.

2. Ron Leary will start at right guard over Bernadeau.

3. Joseph Randle, Terrance Williams and Gavin Escobar will have more combined TD's than DeMarco Murray, Miles Austin and Jason Witten.

4. Bruce Carter makes the Pro Bowl.

5. The starting OL will be Smith-Livings-Frederick-Leary-Free

So your willing to go into the season with no proven backup RB, no proven #2 WR, no proven OLB opposite of Ware, all for the sake of a few hypothetical 2nd round picks and a 5th?

Not the best plan. Look, those 3 guys may not be the greatest players, but they all have legitimate value to us. A lot more than your hypothetical draft picks would have.

Felix is solid.... WHEN healthy and in shape. We have a proven #2 WR? Austin played 8 games last year. Butler has looked pretty good so far filling in for Spencer I will say. I'm not ragging on any of these players, but at the same time... it is a business, it is about production, getting younger and staying healthy. I will leave it at that.

I think it would be silly for management not to consider possibilites. They are monitoring injuries to other teams. Who's to say they are or are not fielding offers for any of these guys. We will hear about it if something pops up.

Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if none of those players return next year.

Yea, I don't get all these trade proposals that will actually weaken us.

We are worried if we have a true #3 wr. Why in the world would we expect that Beasley/Holmes/Harris/whoever could not only play, but be an actual starter? Miles may be banged up a lot, but when he does play he is a top notch WR.

Felix being solid, and having a big game here and there is a lot more than what we have seen from tanner/Olawele. Again, we have nothing to go on to assume they could be better.

And Spencer/Butler. I really like what Victor Butler brings to the table as a pass rusher, but there has to be a reason they don't play him more. Whether that is that he bad against the run or not, I'm not sure.

Bottom line, you don't get rid of 2 starters, and a back who will play a lot for draft picks unless we are throwing the towel in and saying that we are in rebuilding mode. They have more value to the team, than the draft picks they could command at the moment.

If you don't think we can compete this year then you can trade away your pieces like this but otherwise no. Trading Austin and/or Felix now would leave us ridiculously thin at those positions.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Losing Felix wouldn't be horrible in a trade. Decent rbs arent hard to find. Our running woes can be Directly attributed to our poor oline. I'd think we keep Austin and Spencer, if Butler or a rookie show a lot through the rest of preseason Spencer could be traded.

Not worth letting them go this season, agreed.... But I expect a lot of changes next offseason

Why get rid of three guys that could potentially help us this year for draft picks that won't help us and have a fifty/fifty shot at panning out?

I swear the "get rid of players for the sake of getting rid of them" mentality needs to go away.

I really don't think Felix is that big of a deal for the team to compete or not. Rbs are a dime a dozen. Get better up front and the running game will be better, regardless who are the running backs.

A 4th round comp? Good luck with that. No way he touches a contract big enough to make that happen.

Felix - As someone said earlier we will probably get 4th maybe a 5ht when he leaves via FA

Miles - We might get a second but the cap hit we take would be painful

Spencer - same as miles, his contract is guaranteed this year, we trade him his salary is still on our books and then we have to find his replacement
For those of you that were "offended" by last 2 sigs this one is for you.

If this was the 1990s and we had Emmitt Smith I would agree with you. But in this two back era, your backup RB is pretty important. There is a football field of distance between Felix's talent and the rest of the RBs on the roster after Murray. We'd be a significantly weaker team making that move.
