howard - a draft day trade
its common knowledge that the saints need help at linebacker and we are in the perfect spot to steal there highest rated linebacker. which is probabaly merriman or dj. so trading first round picks with us would be huge for them. then the question becomes is it worth it to for us to pass up merriman or dj for a proven nfl DE? i say yes, howard gives us an elite d-line. with 3 proven pass rushers and a run stuffing dt. merriman is more of a risk, but has a lot of possible upside.

Let it go -
at Howards Salary demands there will NEVER be a trade. Why trade a precious #2 and take on a $36M Contract frontloaded and guaranteed? For a 29 year old end when you can draft a 20 year old stud like Merriman at #11?
There is no Howard trade - if it ever happens its in June/July.

He may be talking about the new prevailing wisdom which is Dallas swapping first round picks with the Saints in exchange for Howard. Dallas ends up with a pass rusher, and still has the same number of picks to address other needs.

yea i think once saints see who is still available at #11 be it merriman or dj, they will trade howard.
so its #11
for #16 and howard.
i'd do it.

The Howard contract kills ALL deals - get it!
Saints needs in this draft -
LB, OT, S, TE, QB
To trade up makes little sense for them...

And the funny thing is that he complained about it ALL year and offseason and now contradicts himself.
No one knows what the contract parameters would be, a number was leaked, my guess by an agent. Gee, you think he might inflate those numbers a bit. Howard for a $12-14 million SB and a second is a steal. Same for a move from #11 to 16.
Who reported the money was front loaded or guaranteed?

You didn't know there is this big silver trophy given by the commissioner every year at the end of the Super Bowl that goes to the best capologist for that year?
Yeah it looks like the Lombardi Trophy except there is a silver calculator at the top and it's called the "Cappi" Award.
We should win it this next year.

Makes no sense?
They need LB.
..............Merriman.

Maybe, but I don't think it should be completely shelved and I don't agree with people that say it is a dumb move. This isn't swapping picks for Mark Brunell. This is talented young player at a skill position.
If he could be had for a second or a move in one or Dat Nguyen, its a great deal provided his contract numbers aren't outrageous.

I would love to get Howard and move down five spots. We get Howard, draft Ware at 16, and still have a pick at 20! Move Ware to OLB. The only problem I have with getting Howard is that it all but locks us into the 4-3. I don't hate the 4-3, but it is easier for someone like Merriman/Ware to go from DE in the 4-3 to OLB in the 3-4. Can Howard do the same thing??? IF so, then do it!
"Can we get Drew Bledsoe back out here just for a week, so you guys can fall back in love with Tony? Let's sign Drew Bledsoe back for a week. Because sometimes when you have a pretty girl for so long, you forget how pretty she is. But when you put an ugly girl next to her, 'Oh, no, I'm really doing well.' And maybe we need to bring Drew back, so we can back to 'Oh, no, we're really doing well.'"
