Default FWST: Fourth-round pick Matt Johnson makes the team based on his potential

-- Charean Williams

It is too early to give up on a fourth-round pick, and one with as much potential as Matt Johnson. The Cowboys kept the rookie safety from Eastern Washington, despite having few practice reps and little preseason film in which to judge him.

Johnson was not much of a participant in the Cowboys’ organized team activities as his school’s schedule prevented him, by NFL rules, from practicing until the final day. He then missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Mana Silva may get the opportunity to display his wares in the event something happens to Church. He did some pretty impressive things in preseason. Seems like we're gradually getting some decent candidates to man the safety spot. Matt Johnson will get his chance eventually to prove himself as well. Gotta hope one or more of those guys turns out to be the cat's meow. There's hope.

We've been raving about the job the new Def back coach has been doing.......on the same line of thought, gotta figure he knows a player or two when he sees one.
