You give the guy time to adapt.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

If he is a perennial pro-bowler at right tackle he wouldn't be considered a bust.
Dallas needed an upgrade over Free at left tackle. That is why they moved Smith. Even if Smith doesn't turn out to be the answer, that doesn't mean you move Free back there. He has shown he is not a premier left tackle. Free is better at the right side even if he is struggling at this moment.
Smith hasn't proven anything yet, either good or bad. This is the type of move you have to give time. It is way too early to give up on it. He has the potential to be a great left tackle. He also has the potential to be a great right tackle.

I'd modify this in one way. He has already proven he is a great right tackle. People that attack me for this thread are foolish, this isn't some fantasy like lets move Ratliff to DE. This is what we had last year and he is already proven to be a great RT. People that want to give him more time to develop at LT, that's fine, but for people to want to move him back were he is comfortable and elite, that is a fair opinion aswell.
To those that said he is a bust if he doesn't become a LT - Your absolutely wrong. He has shown he will be an all-pro quality RT. I'll take that at #9 every year and run to the bank. A bust is Felix Jones not Tyron Smith. Does J.J Watt look like the better player right now? Yep, but Tyron isn't some slob that we should be ashamed of.

T. Smith has all the makings of an All-Pro LT. If he is still having problems when he is the ripe age of 23 or 24, we can revisit this discussion.

My thinking is this - Let's move him back to his comfort zone at RT, let him dominate and get insane confidence and experience under his belt. Then revisit him as a LT if we must next year or the following.

Free stunk at LT and stinks almost as bad at RT, so no thanks. We'll see where we are at after the season maybe the tackle we need is playing at Texas A&M right now.

i can agree with this but not until after the year, you cant make a change like that after just 2 games. Offensive lines tend to jell and get better the more they play together. i think if the are still bad at the end of the year, then you switch smith back to RT and free to LT and give them the whole offseason to re-acclimate. i just hope jerry and the rest of the front office works on interior linemen on both sides of the ball for next season, both in FA and the draft

So we should move a player who has not finished growing (figuratively and literally) because he stinks at LT after two games?
C'mon guys, He hasn't even been that bad.
Anyone who can make Osi Umenyiora invisible is doing pretty well for themselves...

re-read what i said. i never called him a bust. i just said IF they move him to RT like the OP is suggesting then that pick would be a bust.

Can we be so sure that Free wouldn't have looked even worse at LT against JPP?
Putting him back at LT stunts (No pun intended) Tyron's growth as an LT. I believe he is the better player and athlete and therefore he should be allowed a fair chance at the LT position. Saying he isn't capable after 2 games seems a bit rushed.

I think Smith will be a helluva LT in due time. But just for the sake of discussion: You're saying that IF they were to move him back to RT permanently, it would automatically make that pick a bust?? Even if he is a top tier RT for a decade?
So now it's not even the players' performance that makes them a bust or not, it's what number there position is drafted at??
I have to disagree.

It's only been 2 games. You can trust someone like Tyron to keep growing into the LT spot, I honestly am not worried about him AT ALL. Doug Free should know better, but I think he will eventually get his head out of *** and get back to where he was 2 years ago. Like I said its been 2 games.
