Joe Person ‏@josephperson
stunner. RT @adbrandt Eagles release Jason Babin. Will owe remaining balance of $5.6M salary, $1.64M, if he is not claimed on waivers.

Oh geez, I can't believe that.

They're just firing everyone over there?

Babin is a really really good player.

Unless there is something I don't know about this release I would be all over this like ugly on Rosanne Barr.

Granted it has been a number of years, but if I recall, wasn't he a poor OLB in a 3-4 his first few seasons in Houston?

Impressive move. He was the only guy that seemed to benefit from that Wide-9 technique last year. I know he can't really play the run very well but 18 sacks and gone the next year

Although I wouldn't be surprised if he was on some performance enhancers. The guy was bouncing around the league and only had 4-5 sacks per year until he went up to 12.5 in his contract year in 2010. Then got paid by the Eagles

Why?

Maybe he's a backup/situational guy, but to bring in a 32 year old at this point in the year makes no sense. Maybe if we were serious contenders, but at this juncture, you don't gain anything by bringing him in.

I think something happened behind the scenes here that obviously none of the involved parties will talk about.

In watching him the past few games and what was (and wasn't) going on with him, I thought something must be 'up'.

I think he's one of the guys that's 'cashed it in' as far as his effort goes.

This definitely confirms some of that, and then some.
