Yep. Pretty much a no brainer.

Not for me.

That's at the top of my list of bad contracts needing to go.

Well, that's not the stasheroo I know.

Actually, I've been against it since last year.

And while I will admit to not knowing the full salary cap implications, unless it costs more to cut Ratliff than to keep him, I'm getting this deal off of the books.

He's an aging, undersized nose tackle who is not earning what he's being paid.

Father Time and the salary cap are converging to create an unacceptable situation.

Great news!

They don't split reps unless there is a serious possibility of the backup player getting to play.

I like that they're doing this. If only to light a fire under Free's butt.

But I have a feeling Parnell isn't that much better of an option. The one benefit is that teams don't know how to destroy him yet like they do Free.

But a couple games in, they'll catch on, I'm sure.

Was thinking the same thing. Jerry will not stop Garrett from doing his job. Jerry giving any player public support does not mean Jason can't pull the trigger on a move in the lineup.

I've always felt Parnell has the tools to be a starting offensive tackle, specifically in a zbs. He'll probably be a downgrade in run blocking, but with this skeleton crew defense we're probably going to be in a lot of shootouts and circus shows for the rest of the season.

It appears that Ratliff's 2013 base salary is guaranteed. I can't give 100% confirmation on this issue; however, based on the reported Guaranteed money in his contract, he is still due approximately 5M which just happens to be his 2013 base salary.

You must have only watched the first half. Free's improvement in the 2nd half was a big reason why Romo played so well then

Looks like the myth has been busted.
"It's little bit like the description of pornography from years back. It's hard to define it. But you know what it is at the end of it. It's hard to define it. I think you know who is more physical. Often times you see that in the fourth quarter. A lot of time the team on the other side feels it. We pride ourselves on being a physical football team. It's important to us. It's an important time of the year to lay that foundation." - Coach Garrett

I do. This season is the first time he's missed significant playing time since his rookie year. We are a better team with him in the lineup. People freak out about his 7 year 48.625 mill contract but fail to realize that 24.5 mill of that (more than half the deal!) is for 2015-2017. The first four years of the deal are $24,125,000. That's his real contract right there -- those four years.

Even conceding that point, $24 million for four years isn't worth it.

He's not worth $6 million per year in my book.

Even when he's played over the past two years, he's not the same pass-rushing playmaker he's been in prior years.

I firmly believe that the wear and tear of being an undersized nose tackle has taken its' toll and will continue to do so.
