Default Trade Scenario

A team like Kansas City should be drafting in the top 5 this year. Let's say that they take a player like Luke Joeckel at that pick. Now the Cowboys have pick #20 and none of the QBs have been drafted. Do you think a team like KC would trade their 2nd in 2013 and their 1st in 2014 for #20 in order to draft a QB?

I would really like to have a lottery ticket for the 2014 draft that could end up being #1 overall. I would love to have a shot at Jadeveon Clowney.

I think Clowney could be the next DWare and is on a Tier above any players in the 2013 draft. IMO, Clowney is already better than any of the outside pass-rushers in the 2013 draft and he is only 19.

I think you've been thinking a little too much about the draft. Step back and think if there's any way you would do this if you were Kansas City.

I also doubt the QB's will be available.

KC will draft #1 or #2 overall. I think if Geno Smith were still there at 20 he'd be in high demand.

I'd draft Stephon Tuitt myself next year, but Clowney's also great and the general idea works for me. The point value doesn't work out fairly for KC, but when it comes to QBs desperate teams do desperate things. Buffalo, Cleveland and Arizona could be trade partners as well.

Given our areas of concern, I don't think there's much difference between a Guard at 20 vs early to mid 30s. If the DL is gone by 20, I'd do it.

We'd probably have our pick from:

OL
Dallas Thomas, Tennessee (G)
*DJ Fluker, Alabama (G/T)
Oday Aboushi, Virginia (T)
Barrett Jones, Alabama (C/G)
Lane Johnson, Oklahoma (T)

DL
Kawaan Short, Purdue (DE)
Sylvester Williams, North Carolina (NT)
*Kwame Geathers, Georgia (NT)
Jesse Williams, Alabama

OLB
*Kyle Van Noy, BYU
Dion Jordan, Oregon
Cornelius Carradine, Florida St
*Chase Thomas, Stanford

FS
Tony Jefferson, Oklahoma

I think you've been drinking too much kool-aid. KC would never make a trade that dumb. They're in position to draft whoever they want his year, even if it menas reaching for a QB.

I doubt they would do it because all the QB's in this draft suck.

They're not risking a top 5 pick next year to take one of them.

They will wait it out and hope they slip into round 2 which they might.

2007 draft, Browns drafted Joe Thomas in round 1, 3rd overall. Traded their 2nd (36 overall) and next year's 1st to move up into round 1 to draft Brady Quinn at 22.

2004 draft, Bills drafted Lee Evans earlier in round 1 and trade their 2nd (43rd overall) + 1st the following year for a 1st (22nd overall) to draft JP Losman.

Can't quite remember the team they both traded with...begins with a D. Denver? Detroit? It's on the tip of my tongue.

In 2004, the Bills traded their 2004 2nd(#43), their 2004 5th(#144) and their 2005 1st for Dallas 2004 1st(#22).

In 2011, the Saints traded their 2011 2nd(#56) and their 2012 1st for the Patriot's 2011 1st(#28).

I'd do that in a heartbeat and happily select Oday Aboushi and Chase Thomas. Sly Williams would definitely be my first choice, but he'd likely be long gone.

I don't know why people think this is outlandish. These sort of trades happen. The Browns and Cowboys did it with the Brady Quinn trade not too long ago.

The scenario is simple. You hold a top pick but don't feel there is a QB worth that pick. The trade downs aren't appealing but another player at a different position is. So you take that player hoping to fill your dire QB need in the 2nd round.

But then you start to see a couple of the QBs go and get nervous. You have one guy left you feel is worth bringing in as your future and about 15 teams in between you and him. So you start working the phones, and if you think that much of this QB to do this, you certainly don't consider next year's 1st rounder to be an unreasonable asking price.

I don't know if it will happen but it certainly could. The fact that the Chiefs will probably have a new coach next year and new coaches like to begin their tenure with their own QB is another reason why it's a possibility.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Good input.

Speaking of Stephon Tuitt, do you watch a lot of Notre Dame games? I was wondering about Kapron Lewis-Moore. NFLDS has him rated as a 7th rounder. In the few games that I've seen, he looked like a decent player and a good 3-4 DE prospect. I would rank him to be about a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Don't underestimate the NFL GM's desire to land a starting QB if one is needed.

You may not think much of Tyler Wilson, but all it takes is one GM to fall in love and make a bold move.

I agree. I don't get why he's not rated higher. Has always seemed like a very safe rotational DL pick at the very least. NFL body. Mature guy. Leader. Does the dirty work. I would bet NFL scouts like him as well.

KC is probably desperate enough. Losing as much as they do with that running game has to be tough. Question is, after taking Joeckel, would it be better to sign Vick and wait for a better QB draft?

I suppose the good news in that scenario is that the best value in round two might be at Guard and Center, so it might increase the odds of two early O-linemen.

I think that is a very good list for us to consider does anyone know how many of these guys are the RKG for Garrett?
I can say Barrett Jones Alabama and Chase Thomas Stanford fit the bill.
