Burnett "Bubble Linebacker"
Heard Parcells describe Burnett as a "bubble" linebacker, decided to do a search and find out what it means.
Quote:
(Pepper) Johnson didn’t hesitate when asked which Patriots linebacker is most like him on the field.
“Ted Johnson,” he said. “Besides (being a) Johnson, besides 52 (the uniform number of both players) and besides his initials being T.J. – and my real initials are T.J. - (Pepper’s given name is Thomas), Ted is a real 3-4 linebacker. He likes being the bubble linebacker, playing over a guard. That’s where he feels most comfortable. And that’s where I grew up. In high school and college I always played in a bubble, and I like that better than a four-man line. He loves the bit hit. He gets in there and mixes it up, just like I used to.
[View Full Quote]“When I look into his face, I see a lot of intensity. I ran my mouth too much during a game when I played. I didn’t stay as focused as Ted does. That’s probably the only difference. He wants to knock running backs back on every play. Every opportunity he gets to hit a guy, he wants to knock him back. That was me, too. I don’t judge linebackers by making a lot of tackles. You can make 200 tackles by grabbing guys around their shoes and their ankles. To be a good linebacker, you have to have some knockback hits. If I didn’t get any knockback hits, I didn’t think I had a good game. That’s Ted Johnson.”

Why was everyone saying he HATED the cowboys today?????
"They say it makes your testicles shrink,'' Bonds said. "I can tell you my testicles are the same size. They haven't shrunk. They're the same and work just the same as they always have."

He didn't sound all that stoked when Norm interviewed him, montone and tired. Said some people were throwing a party, but he wasn't going to attend. He said he thought the Patriots were going to take him at #32, sounded a little disappointed. Mentioned he didn't mind playing in a 3-4 or a 4-3, Dallas was paying him and he'd play wherever they wanted him too.

Wow, that was so well put and discribed our tiny never make any big hits or plays dat...tackles at the socks and always gets knocked backwards...
Burnett looks like a great fit inside, while dat the human speedbump is phased out for bigger, better tougher players!

morning pops! it's a great day to be a Cowboy fan!!!
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Sounds like Parcells has designs on making him the other ILB next to Nguyen in the 3-4 sets; that makes sense. In that light all three of our picks translate into a 3-4 defensive scheme. Along with getting Ware for a OLB and Spears as the big DE we need for the 3-4. I see us going more and more to the 3-4 as the year goes on and it will be our base by the end of the year.
I don't know how happy I am about going to the 3-4 but it has to be better than our hamstrung version of the 4-3. At least in a 3-4 the DE's are supposed to occupy and engage; that philosophy just doesn't work well in a 4-3.

Hmmm, maybe the bubble reference wasn't about football.

So that sounds like the inside guy in a 3-4 playing over the guard.
Isn't he a little like in the britches right now for that? I heard reports he was in the 230s and a former safety?
I like the pick, I just hope his attitude improves.
Does he know Witten from his UT days?

Well that's not terribly encouraging. Whenever possible, I'd really prefer players who actually want to play for us. Hmmph.
