if AZ decides to part ways with their coaches. I like Horton. he was trained under Dick Labeau in pittsburgh. he also has dallas ties. would be a good pick up as he has done well with AZ defense.

I do want him replaced. I think he's overrated and I know he has lost a lot of talent on his side of the ball but he hasn't done anything to lead me to believe he's a top 15 DCoord. He can't even get the right amount of players on the field in crucial situations and his unit often looks confused.
SOLUTION: The up and comer to me is Ken Norton Jr. presently coaching LB's for the Seahawks. I have been very impressed with the Seahawk D (esp LB's who are tough as nails). They say KN is very intense and he's a yeller. He will not put up with Sensabaugh/Jenkins wiffs or mediocrity. He of course has some DC pedigree until we let him go to the 9ers (a big mistake) and I like his intensity. Sometimes that type of coach does not work in the NFL but we can certianly do better than what we have now. I'm actually very jealous of the 49er/Seahawk DB's. They are all very tough hitters and great tacklers, something that can be coached and definitley improved upon with the DC.

Agreed. Ryan is gambling more for the interception by a three man rush and 8 man zone than pressuring the QB. Michael Irvin pointed out that no one can cover a receiver that long, at some point they will be open. And in the meantime, 3 rusher will become less forceful over time against double blockers.

Exactly my point. We all know the injuries happened and yes, they got worse. But to fool yourself and act like this defense was anything to write home about even when everyone was healthy is laughable. Seems like Carr's INT was about the only pick we have this season where someone just made a play on the ball. Not a tipped ball that lands in our hands or a dropped ball that comes to us.

And I read someone saying top 5 or 6?? Lmao. Wow. that could not be further from the truth. No one has ever feared this defense for a long time.

Pretty much my take. The only thing I have against Rob Ryan is his parentage, and that's unlikely to change. He was dealt a tough hand last year, and then bitten by injuries this year. They've done a nice job this season under the circumstances.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. Me too, but a lot of the time we are just running a 4-3 over...4 lineman rushing and 3 lbs in coverage. It just happens to be slanted to one side or another.

I fully expect Rob Ryan to be roaming our sidelines in 2013. He loves it here.

Working for Jason might just be the best thing for Rob. I'd guess that JG's strengths match up well with Ryan's potential weaknesses as a HC fairly well, and that this ends up a great opportunity for him.

I can't see another team wanting to bring him in to run it all right now. Not with his more-sensible seeming brother struggling in NY suddenly, and our own team underperforming fans' ridiculous expectations for our own defense. Rob will need another season or two as DC before he's a possible 'hot' candidate again.

I am a huge critic of Rob and think he is vastly overrated just like his brother. That being said the injuries give him a pass.

That is the part I like about Rob, his defense is kind of amorphic; a blend of a 4-3, 3-4, 4-6, and then some atypical formations. The only thing that is a little frustrating is the conservative containment calls which gives the offense time to pick apart the secondary.

My one sample of Ryan's potential as a clever DC comes from the Cleveland/Patriot game where Ryan knew the Pats weakness and his rather pedestrian Brown's defense smothered the Pats 55-10. He knew how to exploit the inherent weakness of a team with very few weaknesses. I would guess that the longer he coaches a team and against familiar opponents, the better he gets at attacking. At least one side of the ball should be doing that.

Default What I Want is a Complete Defensive Strategy

Either Ryan commits to covering the entire field and tkaing away the opponents option 1 or he should go....but he is not.

When he does go, I would like to see the experience of Mangini return to coach the Cowboys D or the tough discipline of Norton brought in.

But even more important than that is to promote Callahan to playcalling OC or bring in a complete run first OC.
Cowboys - Eagles

You can't win a playoff game in the regular season.
You can't win a game in December any other time than December.
If thats all you got, keep your mouth shut.

LEAVE NO DOUBT...

So if genetic evidence emerges that Rob Ryan is actually the secret lovechild of Kenny Rogers and Nell Carter, you would be ok with him as DC?

I wouldn't approve of the household he was raised in, but I'd be thrilled, otherwise.

He seems like a good guy. And I hate the 3-4 in DAL, but I do like his defense and attitude. Just hate his dad with a white-hot passion. And I don't like having a legacy from another NFCE team on our coaching staff.
