I think the odds of Romo winning a super bowl are slim to none and slim is out of town.

Craig
Chicago thought they had a QB in Rex Grossman, Carolina had faith in Jake Delhomme. What does this have to do with the Dallas Cowboys? It just might mean that Tony Romo isn't what we thought and we may have to move forward without him.

Chargers let him walk because Brees had a shoulder injury in the last game of the season as well as drafting Rivers before Brees' emergence.

Furthermore, I think it's normal to struggle your first couple years as a QB.

Brees would be a top QB regardless. Super Bowl champion - that's debatable.

He played in San Diego for 5 years, 4 of which he was the starter. You really think they wouldn't have kept him even with the injury if he was playing like he has in NO? They could have just as easily traded Rivers away and retained Brees.

I do think part of Romo's big-game failures is that our offensive game plans tend to fail him in such games. You saw it last night. Romo, through Garrett, was expecting one thing and got something else from Washington. And without a counter being sent in from the sideline, a confused and battered Romo threw pick after pick.

Seeing how Payton has run things in New Orleans, you get a sense the game planning and in-game adjustments would have been much different in a game like last night. Just look at his impact on Brees. Without Payton, Brees leads the league in interceptions.

That relationship between QB-OC is a symbiotic one, but not here. One doesn't really help the other out here.

If the Chargers didn't draft Rivers, they would've kept Brees.

Rivers was drafted after Brees' second year as starter before Brees emerged his third year as starter.

The Chargers had to get rid of one QB. Its not like brees was dumped in favor of a scrub. Tough to give up a Top 5 draft pick.

Even the Colts went with Andrew Luck over Peyton Manning.

Overall point is that Brees is a great QB whether he went to the Saints or not.

No chance, the other question is if Romo goes to no, any chance that we sign Brees?

Yeah, I know. The premise being they thought Rivers was the franchise QB, while Brees was expendable with or without the injury (They had to make a move regardless). He never passed for more than 3,500 yards in San Diego... but once he got to NO he started blowing the doors off teams, passing for well over 4,000 every year, setting TD records, and won a Superbowl. Why was there such a huge improvement when he got to NO?

I already know the answer.

If Brees stayed in San Diego, he could have had comparable success. Rivers got the Chargers to a Championship game and has out up huge numbers, too. You can only think Brees doesn't do the same if you think Rivers is better.

Heck, Brady didn't start blowing up numbers and being a top fantasy QB until his 4th or 5th season. How do you explain that?

I think Brees is a case of leaving San Diego before he fully blossomed as opposed to Brees being a Saints Superstar and junk anywhere else. I guess you think otherwise.

Tough call.

Seeing that I don't even think New Orleans had the best team the one time they did win the title with Brees. I kind of doubt Romo would have gotten one. I mean, I don't even think Brees should have gotten one.

Yes, as long as the bounty money was flowing to keep the other team's offense off the field. Absolutely.

A fact: The GM that let Drew Brees go was fired today.

The thing that they have going in NO is the same as what they now have going in Washington, DC: A coach that designs an offense that takes advantage of his QB's skills. In these two case it's mobility and creativity.
We have (and it looks like will add to the problem w/ Norv) remodeling our QBs to fit a certain style of offense (pocket-passing, timing based) suitable to a guy 6'5" (Brady, Rivers, Manning bros, etc).

I'd like to see Crennel take over as DC, or Lovie, if we have the players to do the 4-3. I've always thought Ryan was a big blow-hard, but he did do some good things w/ guys off the street.

Happy New Year everybody...

The Chargers did try to resign Drew Brees, but were stuck in a troublesome situation because after they drafted Rivers to become the franchise player is when Brees started to step up. This was when a top 10 draft pick cost a lot of money so you were kinda tied to them... Rivers has put up monster numbers too and the Chargers were a powerhouse for a period...

Regarding Romo on the Saints... Don't discredit what other teams/players have done to win a ring, its a hard thing to do

The question to me is does Payton have a Super Bowl trophy if he takes Tony Romo with him to New Orleans.
