Default Crawford Exceeded Baker’s Expectations As Run Stopper

Rowan Kavner
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas – An excess of injuries that ravaged the defense didn’t spare a veteran group of Dallas defensive linemen.

Though defensive line coach Brian Baker would have preferred to have taken more time to develop his younger linemen, the rash of injuries forced rookie Tyrone Crawford into the rotation, allowing him to showcase his skills and get more experience for next season.

“Ty kind of started as a guy where the whole thing was happening 100 miles an hour for him,” Baker said. “He ended up as a guy where things slowed down enough where he was able to play really physically, being productive, understanding blocking schemes, reacting to the ball, being a real live NFL lineman. His maturation process, I think, was right along the lines of what we’d hoped, and probably exceeded my expectations.”

The Cowboys had no choice but to play the third-round pick after losing Jay Ratliff, Josh Brent and Kenyon Coleman. Baker said he’d never before in his career experienced the kind of losses the Cowboys’ defense and defensive line sustained this season.

Crawford was a solid pick.

Looking forward to seeing him next year. He needs to be more productive. I'm not buying anything from any coaches right now. Tough tell tell how much is real and how much is butt covering.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

I thought all things considered, he played well. He was pretty raw coming out of college and contributed to the team.

I noticed him beating linemen and making tackles. Getting push and the like. Nice to see a coach confirm what I thought I saw.

I'm excited to see him next year after a full offseason.

I'm excited as well. This was a good pick, I believe.

Yep. It's good to know there is at least one capable body on our DLine

Is mediocrity in vogue these days... How many sacks & QB pressures did Crawford get??? Maybe what the article says reflects more on the coaching ability of Baker than that of Crawford's ability. Maybe Baker should ask how Skip Pete feels about his coaching ability and player recognition skills.

It just looks like people are getting used to 8x8 around here. So sad...

I know it won't happen but there needs to be lots of change around Cowboy headquarters. We need to clean the slate, dump players and coaches, go 2x14 for a couple of years, get some top 3 draft picks and rebuild from the ground up. Maybe we could pull off a Colts or Redskins rebuild in 1 year...Maybe...

I'm hoping for more than that.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Hopefully, a full offseason with Woicik in the weight room will build Crawford into an every down DE. He has a lot of tools to work with, he just needs to get more stout.

Good Lord, has this board gotten so intellectually stagnant that we can't talk about anyhing other than how every player on the 53 man roster sucks for the next 7 months?

Does anyone know a place on the internet where people can actually semi-coherently breakdown Cowboys players and film breakdwon and talk about football rather than play the "I'm More Emo Than Thou" game?

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

Those that never learn from the past are doomed to repeat the same mistakes in the future. That's a concept that most (if not all ) coolaid drinkers are not prepared to discuss on this forum. There are a few of us who at least advocate for major changes for this team cause we are sick of the last 17 football seasons in Dallas.

How's your coolaid sipping these days...

I don't know what "Coolaid" sipping is, because I'm not 13 years old and I don't think in a world of tribal identities. I stopped caring about preps vs. jocks. vs. nerds. vs stoners around junior high. I go on football messageboards to talk about football concepts and schemes with the all too few intelligent, semi-literate posters who study the game and watch what's going on the field with a little more detached curiousity, not get into some juvenille Jets vs. Sharks argument as to who the "cool kids" are at the junior high cafeteria table in the mind numbing "realists' vs "kool aid" drinkers debate.

Generally most sports fans are ignorant morons who spend very little time actually studying and breaking down a game they spend infinite hours arguing about, and fans who have deemed themselves somehow a cut above ignorant moron because because they've created some caricature of themselves as a "realist" when they thread pollute every topic on how every player sucks, and how Emo they are because nobody understands their fan pain, Jerry Jones took away your banky and favorite Care Bear Underoos are the most insufferable type of moron. You're not Fonzi meets Nietzche meets Robert Ingersoll free thinker by regurgitating what every other self imagined "realist" in the messageboard hivemind is mindlessly bleating in every thread.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.
