With both Spencer and Ware at DE, would be a little small at that position? I know guys like Charles Haley played smaller but 2 DEs at 250 & 255 lbs feels a little small. Ware would be fine. Spencer is strong against the run so maybe it would work fine for him too.

No, in a 43, your DEs are typically smaller then you see in a 34. 260 -270 for a rush end and 270-280 for a strong side end is not uncommon.

I doubt it. Had he not acted the way he did with Jerry, then I think he would probably be a perfect 3 Technique DT but now, I think he's gone. I would imagine that Lissemore and Hatcher will probably be the DTs in a 43. Spears is probably gone and Galloway might see a lot more playing time as your 1Tech. I'd go as far as to say that Spencer will probably not be here either and the Strong End will be Crawford with Ware at the Rush End.

I agree that 4-3 DEs are smaller... I haven't looked around the league at 4-3 DEs lately but what are the size of some of the smaller DEs? I can easily see one DE at 250-255 (Ware or Spencer), but I wasn't sure if it was common for both DEs to be that light. Would we hold up well enough against the run?

The linebackers would be the least of our worries in a switch to a 4-3. Carter and Lee arguably fit a 4-3 scheme even better.

I really doubt we bring back Spencer. Especially with having to get under the cap in March. I know we could do some restructuring and release certain players to get under it, I just don't see us doing it.
There's always more to the story.

Yeah. To be honest, I don't think Spencer will be here. I think it will be Crawford at LDE. He is like 285 lbs.

I think (in the NFL) that Carter is a best fit at the Will.
You could put him at Sam, but I don't know that that would be optimal.

My biggest question on the switch to 4-3 is if we keep Spencer, what do we make him? Everyone is so quick to call him DE but look at his game, he's great in coverage and run stopping. Why not keep Spence in the LB corp and make out 4-3 front seven:
Carter. Lee. Spencer
Ware.Ratliff.Hatcher.Lissemore/Crawford
And if Spencer goes, make Albright the OLB

I think he can be a good DE. He doesn't really have a lot of speed. But in the end I don't see Rat and Spence with us next season.

We won't keep him because we would be paying way too much money for a Run Stopping DE. He will get much more money as a 34 OLB. Aint gonna happen.

That's because he was too small for the traditional 3-4 ILB. He would fair much better in a 4-3.

I'm looking around the league at 4-3 defenses and I see a lot of interesting things. There is really no clear-cut criterium. The Seahawks have a 323 pound Red Bryant playing DE. The Bengals and a few other teams have giant NTs. The Bears, on the other hand, have a 260 pound Henry Melton playing DT. The Broncos have 5'11" 260 pound Elvis Dumervil and 300 pound Derek Wolfe playing DE, while their best pass rusher Von Miller is playing SLB. I think as long as you're creative and get your best guys on the field, you don't necessarily have to have traditional guys playing every position.
