How does Ernie Sims fit in with whatever Kiffin is going to do?

I worry about his ability to adapt to new offenses. The 62 points Oregon dropped on him using the spread is a big red flag to me.

But, if he performs as he did when he was with the Bucs, I'm ok with it.

I guess it really doesn't matter if the team has another season like this year because they might be looking for a whole new staff.
I think that's the mindset. 2013. You can't possibly be thinking of the future when hiring a 72 year old.

The one good thing is you know he's going to be completely invested in being our defensive coordinator and not being someone else's head coach next year. Garrett will have his full loyalty. So if they have success next year, Lord willing, maybe they can enjoy a nice mini run together.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

With no cap space how in the sam heck are they going to get players to play the 4-3. This could be a epic disaster.

Well he failed as a 4-3 backer twice. Then he came here in a defense you would think wouldn't fit his skills at all and he carved out a role for himself.

I think he can probably stick next year. But I wouldn't want him starting.

They were playing a lot of 4-3 this year.

You've got - Ware Hatcher Ratliff Spencer/Crawford

With - Albright/Wilber Lee Carter

That's without any FA or draft additions this offseason.

I wouldn't say we need a lot to field a functioning 4-3 next year. We were going to need a couple of DL upgrades anyway if we really wanted to improve the defense.

This is my problem with the hire. It's Jerry putting all his eggs in a 2013 basket. Not one damn thought to the future of this team. Anyone that has had any doubts about why this teams mires in mediocrity needs only to look at moves like this. I'm sick of the ineptitude of this franchise.

The Washington Redskins.............where former Pro Bowlers go to suck.

Ware coming off major shoulder surgery, Ratliff hardly played at all this year and is only a year older. Lee and Carter cant seem to stay on the field. I like Albright and Wilber. They will need to add some DL. Im not apposed to 4-3 but I just think they are picking the wrong year to do it.

This team was absolutely injury-plagued all year.

according to Jerry, the two games that matter to show good/bad are the Seahawks and Bears games. Dez, Witten, Murray, Austin all played in those games. The offense averaged 12.5 PPG. Jerry himself used those 2 games as the barometer....and 12.5 PPG just isnt getting it done.

Ernie Sims was considered the ideal weak side linebacker for the Tampa-2 coming out of college ...but he was terrible his first few seasons under Marinelli in Detroit...had the speed but not the instincts.

You can win with either scheme but I prefer a 3-4. Sad to see it go.
Agreed. Cowboys were one good NT and another defensive end who could rush the passer away from being a very good defense.

Yeah, me to seeing Parcells was the one who switched us from a 4-3 to 3-4 in 2004.

I was hoping we would have dominated with it when we switched. Apparently our players are too dumb to play in the 3-4 base defense.

We definitely need another DT or two. With Ratliff though at least he won't have to lineup across the center. I think the 3-4 defense failed him for the most part.
