I wonder why we did not take a NT?
I think we had a tremendous draft that gives us a lot of options, but this bothers me.
Carson could not hold up against the run in a 4-3, Glover is too small to play NT every down, what happens if Ferguson gets hurt?
Causes me to doubt a shift to a 3-4 base because we can better aborb losing Ferguson in a 4-3 by moving Spears inside.

We are only playing the 3-4 in Nor's mind.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I agree with you for the most part. We don't have any other 0-gap NTs on the team.
I still say that we will have multiple looks - 3-4 here, 4-3 hear. Parcells stated yesterday that Glover would play nose in the 3-4, not end. I assume he means situationally, spelling ferguson. I do think that means we don't ONLY play 3-4. We will have a much more sophisticated, multilook defense, with LOTS of rotation on the line.

I think Parcells was banking on Andrew Hoffman.

My bet would be that a serviceable veteran will become available when the cutdowns start this summer.

I don't give a rats a$$ whether we play 3-4, 4-3, 2-7, or 5.5-1.5 as long as we get to the QB.
There is no formula for success except an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.

Fergy plays run downs and Glover & Carson could excell in passing downs inside...

Not necessarily that clear cut. In the 3-4, on passing downs, you often send pass rushers. To do so, you need lineman to eat blocks up so the LBs can get through. Glover can't eat those blocks that way Ferguson can, although Glover is the better natural pass rusher. You are more likely to see Ferguson at the 0-gap(NT), Glover at the 5 (DE) and spears at the 5(?).

We could go hard after a NT prospect who goes undrafted as a backup. Some guys:
DL
Larry Burt, Miami (Ohio) (6-2/313)
Tim Bulman, Boston College (6-3/294)
Albert Means, Memphis (6-4/335)
Arrion Dixon, Arkansas (6-4/310) Seems like an easy post-draft sign.
Buhlman's Profile:
Has a thick chest, wide waist, thick thighs and calves, good bubble, wide upper-body mass and an excellent power base … The type of guy you want on your side in a bar fight, showing a highly aggressive nature and urgency in getting to the ball … Has very good lateral agility, staying low in his pads to generate explosion off the snap to penetrate into the backfield … Plays with good leverage, using his hands effectively to stack and control … Plays until the whistle, and while he might get pushed around a bit by double-teams, will win most one-on-one battles … Has a knack for sifting through trash to find the ball … Times his leaps well to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage. … Gets very physical when taking on an offensive guard, utilizing his club, hump and rip moves to shed and get into the backfield … Has enough short-area speed to create havoc in the backfield … His ability to flow effortlessly to the ball in lateral pursuit is one of the best assets he possesses … Very combative with his hands and stays low in his pads to gain penetration and flush out the quarterback.

I thought we'd take Burt in the 6th or 7th over another projected 3-4 DE.
