what we should do is:
FA:
1 DL
1 OL
Draft:
if possible, trade down into mid 20s and get extra 3dr round pick
Rd 1: OL or DL (based on value and our draft board)
Rd 2: OL or DL (whichever was not obtained in Rd 1)
Rd 3: FS (this is a deep safety class at safety and there will be someone available here who can potentially compete for a starting spot and cettainly develop into a starter)
Rd 3: OL
Rd 4: slot receiver or back up RB
Rd 5: slot receive or back up RB
and so on
we can make it work if we are smart

I could see things working out that way.

No trading down. We need to stay put and get the best player available for that slot. No more games. Don't try to get cute.

But truthfully if the Cowboys came up empty on every round when it came to offensive lineman BECAUSE there was a CLEARLY better rated talent available at the spot they were drafting, then I'm on board with not taking any offensive linemen. I think you have to take what the draft gives you. If you force-feed positions then you get drafts like this:
2 49 Dwayne Goodrich CB Tennessee
4 109 Kareem Larrimore CB West Texas A&M
5 144 Michael Wiley HB Ohio St.
6 180 Mario Edwards CB Florida St.
7 219 Orantes Grant OLB Georgia

Sad part is Edwards was the best of that group he was not great but played solid for us he was great value for being a 6th rounder.
Larrimore and Goodrich where terrible draft picks both had questionable character which of course showed up. The issue really is we drafted two questionable characters which was way to big of a gamble. Equals fail

I'll tell ya, looking at the drafts from that time period the Cowboys paid zero attention to character when drafting guys. I mean year after year until about the time Parcells came on board, the Cowboys were blowing a couple picks per draft on knuckle-heads.
Thankfully they've done much better in that area.
