great thread guys, if we can manage to have a relatively injury free year, the development of these players combined with our injured linemen from last year, we really will be in the drivers seat for years to come. I still am a little worried about R.T. however, - I think the position will be adaquitely mannned this year. Just having Riviera at guard will help immensly.Remember all the concern over Riviera's signing bonus and age, well, there is another high character guy right there, and also shows that Bill and Jerry had their plan well laid out back at the start of free agency. Well done fellas, well done.

over at extreme skins they are delirious. and dreaming that their draft is good because they got good character guys.
well, character is just a bit of the equation - athleticism and instincts are good category titles.
and, these cowboy picks do have a good blend of all three.

Edit: I just listened to Jerry Jones' press conference after the end of the draft, and he said that Barber had the reputation of being a very hard worker and being a tough, hard-nosed player.

So, I guess that makes it 8 for 8 in the character department. I was wrong when I said we were 7 out of 8 there.

Nice.

Athleticism - 1
Out of all of the safeties at the Combine, Beriault had the fourth-best vertical (39.5), the second-longest broad jump (11-0), the fastest short shuttle time (3.80), the second-fastest long shuttle (10.82), the fastest 3-cone time (6.92), the fifth-fastest 10-yard time (1.61) and the fourth-fastest 20-yard time (2.68). His 40-yard time of 4.61 was "only" eighth-best, but he tested extremely well in everything else. (For comparison, he matched or beat Josh Bullocks in everything but the 10, 20 and 40.)

That's good info, Adam. It's those "other" tests that interest me. I can care less about the 40. The 40 is so overated it's ridiculous.

On the ticket when we took Barber... Goose and Norm was talking about what a high character guy he is..and how he willingly was sharing the load with a fellow running back even though it might cost him draft position...to me that is putting team first and shows tremendous character
Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course, over a great ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair....Bertrand Russell

I have to admit, this kid intrigues me. All of that shows good measurables yet the dish on him is that he lacks coverage skills and will only be a role player. This gives me hope, I was also surprised that Kiper had him as his 91st ranked player on his board.

I can't wait to see him play for myself because I never have seen him. Love his tackling numbers and that seems to be what they say his strength is.

Clearly he has something to offer. I am excited to see what it may be.

Just wanted to give props as well for this thread. We're all struck first with the credentials of our draftees and get excited. But then I was honestly noticing as well that these guys were all of high character as well. Hallelujah!!

I think we Boy's fans are all a bit tired of having our hearts broken by the AB, Derek Ross, etc. Not to mention those 2000 CB's.

Its looking like a great offseason. I'd like to see a bit more tweaking (RT, WR, and of course FS) if the right players present themselves.

I stand corrected, Adam.

Well, I was just trying not to make all of our picks perfect... but I guess they all were!

Yes, excellent thread, AF... I couldn't agree more. I've always thought that there are enough great players and athletes out there who are also good people that you never need to even look at the thugs and troublemakers.

The impact of having a team full of smart, team-oriented players who are dedicated and work hard year round just can't be overestimated, IMO. This is three years now of Parcells bringing in players who absolutely fit that profile, and it will pay off on the field.

By the way, Beriault's 3.80 in the short shuttle was the fastest time of anyone at the combine, regardless of position. (Carlos Rogers was second at 3.82.) And Beriault's 11-0 broad jump was fourth-best out of everyone.

I had no idea he had that kind of athleticism. Really, the only thing he seems to be lacking (and that isn't much) is his straight line speed.

Any idea why he fell as far as he did?

Good kid. Good athlete. Seems like he would've gone sooner.

I know Mel Kiper had him rated as, what, a third? So some guys out there knew about him.

I agree. Besides, i thought tucker was more reliable than Flozzell Adams in pass blocking last year...though that isn't a ringing endorsement.
