I am not sure about his first statement but, despite his presence and yearly play, I am not sure if he is a leader. Heck I'm never sure who are leaders are. If I nominated one guy who I think could it would be Lee. But overall I've never gotten the leader vibe from Ware, Romo and some other bigger names.

I think it's Carr, Lee and Rat on Defensive side of the ball. Soon, it could be Carter, it remains to be seen. Will be interesting to see what the future holds for Rat in this respect.

The two people that should be our leaders just aren't natural leaders.
Tony Romo and DeMarcus Ware couldn't lead a Turkey to Thanksgiving Dinner if they were dressed like Pilgrims.

Yeah, he might have some money to his name still.

So look at the numbers, sacks vs turnover ratio, you'll find there is some relevance to this.
Not sure why people take comments like Sapps personal. Afterall it's a game and young men play this game, with different qualities.
Ware probably has more sacks, Smith more turnovers, what's the big deal?
This is Coaching and the Overall Culture of the Team. Turnovers with Sacks impact more than Sacks without Turnovers, that's what.

It's funny that you mention this. It's backwards. In Ware's first two years, he didn't have as many sacks as Aldon Smith has this year alone, but he had more forced fumbles and the same number of ints (1), although Ware's went for a TD.
In fact, Smith has the same number of Sacks as Ware had in his first 3 years.

I will say this in Sapp's defense, it does seem like Ware never really comes up with a big sack or a strip to stop a late game winning drive.
Last time I remember Ware making a play to basically seal the game was sacking Brees in that New Orleans game when they were still undefeated.
Now I am not bagging on Ware, he is a legit first ballot HOF player. I am just saying that kinda like Romo has the label of choking, Ware has the label of not making big plays with the game on the line.
Just saying sometimes perception becomes reality, even if it is not always true.
As the official head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett is 16-16............"Its a Process of stacking good days"
2013 Prediction: "NO PLAYOFFS"

I'm here to defend Ware to some degree, but mostly to tear a hole in Sapp's comment, because this isn't even a backhanded compliment... it's just plain disrespectful.
While I agree Ware doesn't have as big of an impact on games now, I don't think it's fair to disregard what he has done in the past.
I'm a fan of what Aldon can do and I think he has a promising future, But if we really want to 'go there'... Only 14% of Smiths Sacks come in close score situations opposed to DeMarcus Ware's 49% .

Warren Sapp is an idiot... The NFL Network should have did us all a favor and declined to renew his contract.

Ware's a more complete player than Smith. Way better at stopping the run and not bad dropping back in coverage.

My favorite hobby - watching Mustangs fall behind in the rearview mirror of my '01 C5.

This is the same guy who said, with a straight face, that other Dallas Cowboys players weren't getting as many sacks because they were stopping and watching Ware in the middle of plays rather than playing.
If you find yourself nodding in agreement with anything that comes out of Warren Sapp's mouth as sage wisdom, it's time to take a long look in the mirror. Maybe start looking into night classes.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

I was wondering the same thing.
I was listening to M Irvin on DP and he said the leadership curve starts with the player(s) who demonstrate outstanding work ethic above and beyond what's required. When one player stands out with efforts in off season work, practice, weights and film, translating to game day success others will follow and you fall into a leadership role. It's there for the taking if you want it. Those that are just verbal are just that and are not really team leaders but motivators. It has to translate on the field.
I could see Lee or Carter in this role but on offense but don't see anyone wanting the role. Perhaps I'm missing something?
