The guys Harbaugh picked up weren't all that impressive last night. Harbaugh's marquee guy, Aldon Smith, seemed rather invisible last night also. Kaepernick seemed in over his head (but not his fault really), Culliver made more mistakes than good plays, etc.
He seems like a good HC, but I think he may get too much credit in some areas.

hard to over state what they have done the last two years under him though; they showed nothing compared to that under Singletary.

I hope you are right...
I would love for the NFL powers from the 80's to return to prominence again.

I do believe the overall level of talent on their squad vs ours is legitimate.
I'm sure they're happy with Harbaugh but I've wondered how well Singletary would have done with more time.

Regarding Singletary, ask yourself this question. How many Hall of Fame players make even halfway decent coaches? I can only think of a couple (Ditka was a great player and coach) but for the most part the best coaches either didn't play the game, or were not very good at it when they did play.

Lol, what? Nobody said that. What they said was that they had a good defense but no QB because Alex Smith couldn't play and was a huge bust.

I knew there would be a catch...
Also, don't be surprise when the current CBA expires if there is a strike with Both Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder coming out on the Players side after the Salary Cap penaltyfor overspending a non-existant salary cap.
Mara gave the players a bunch of ammo to not trust the owners to honor their agreements (as they have admitting to having an illegal "gentlemens agreement" to not honor the "Poison Pill" in the last CBA of the "uncapped" year.)

Right. They found someone to run their team well-- Harbaugh is a good fit.
But at the same time, they had a lot of inconsistency in coaching regimes since 2005 and a lot of the star players were amassed from lean years.
Harbaugh was able to step in and make the most of an already talented team is all I'm saying. He had a big impact on the effectiveness of the offense and the attitude of the team, but he didn't grow the team.

There was also a time that Smith was losing his job to Hill and there was a lot of hype about the offense being able to come to life with addition of Crabtree, and so on and so forth.
I'll clarify that they weren't expected to be title contenders, but from what I remember (and not limited to this message board, I post on quite a few boards around the league) there was buzz about the 9ers putting together a solid playoff team due to the weak NFCW.
