Parcells to Beriault: "We have a safety spot ..."
From the Muncie (Indiana) Star Press ..........
Ball State safety Justin Beriault didn't get a chance to see his name appear on the TV screen when it was displayed. He was in another room at his mother's house in Indianapolis talking to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who was congratulating him for being picked.
Cowboys coach Bill Parcells then told Beriault that his position had a vacancy.
"Coach Parcells said, 'We have a safety spot if you think you're up for it and can handle it,' and I said I was," Beriault said.
Dallas might move Roy Williams from free safety to strong safety, creating an opening for Beriault and others to compete for a starting job.
"I know they need some help, but I'll have to earn my spot," Beriault said. "I hope I can take advantage of my opportunity."
Beriault ranked second in the MAC last season with 125 tackles. He was named to the All-MAC first team for the second straight season.
"That's the fastest-running, slowest-walking guy I've ever seen."

Good for him. Keith should be pushed, not handed the position. Don't know who will win, but now noone will just be handed the job.

Some competition anyhow. If he can't handle it, maybe Davis can earn the Tunas trust.

Hey when the best player/option we had last year ended up being Lynn Scott.
Improvement isn't a titanic leap. If the guy is as smart and as intense as his draft analysis says then he could conceivably help us next year. It certainly is a reasonable idea.

Lynn Scott lost his roster spot when we draft Berinault.
Roy, Davis, Dixon and Beriault. And we probably get a veteran FS to start. If we do, then I think Beriault makes the team as he can play both FS and SS. That would then put Dixon and Davis head-to-head for that 4th safety spot.

Dixon is gone? Hmm. He started for us last year, and the fact that he is gone doesn't even cross my radar. Guess that is telling of how feckless he was last year.

Scott clearly outplayed Dixon last year.
Don't think we'll see Tony with a star on his helmet again - maybe not in a helmet again at all.

I don't see any reason he would be on anyone radar. The guy spent his entire Cowboy career in the stealth mode. I was never sure if he actually even existed, you certainly couldn't prove it with the box score.

I think Hunter is the early leader.

As bad as Dixon was, Scott was equally bad...
Waaaaay too slow to cover any ground...
Dallas "might" move Roy to SS?
Geez, what a move that would be...Lets just hope zimmy has NOTHING to do with the defense this year as Parcells takes over there...Then we have hope our guys can play up to their ability!
Hunter will start this year, Davis will see time in nickle/dime pkgs and the new kid from Indy will get a chance to show if he has anything to offer...

My guess at his name (though I have never heard it) is that it might be berry-alt.
