Default Does anyone know anything about Matt Johnson?

Does anyone know anything about this guy? Anyone watch him in college? I'm wondering how Johnson figures into the safety mix. Will the Cowboys look to draft a safety, sign a vet, or evaluate Johnson more and then decide? I think he could be a good player for us. I know he was injured all of last season but he wasn't injured much in college so he really has no history of being injured alot. Just doing research on him on the internet he seems like he could be a good player for us. He's pretty fast and is known as a good tackler. Just curious what the Zone thinks about him........
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He has an outstanding highlight reel on youtube. Probably the best I've seen. But there are a lot of people down on him because he kept reinjuring the hamstring last season. The Cowboys still have to look for safeties since he's no sure thing and Church is coming back from injury. There also isn't much depth otherwise. And Sensabaugh probably doesn't fit Kiffin's scheme to well.

honestly, it would be great if he contributes next season, but I don't expect any more form him than our last few 4th rounders (arkin, owusu, vbutler, bwilliams).

I'm not going to judge a person before I've awarded the opportunity to see him play. And I can't call a rookie injury prone, that's just dumb.

All I know is that his college career was in stark contrast to what's happened to him in Dallas. If he can revisit the good health and the level of play he enjoyed in college, we should have something special. It's most assuredly anyone's guess if that'll somehow change. It appears the best we can hope for is that he'll find a way to develop and maintain better durability.

The only short-term positive I see is that this is like we are getting an extra draft pick this year that has already been spent on a very athletic safety.

But then again: 1) he has to actually contibute this year and 2) that will not (and should not) prevent us from looking at safety again this year in the draft and in FA.

I keep hearing how they were so impressed with him in practice in the little time he was healthy and that he caught onto everything very fast in the film room...so we'll see.

He's been out because of injury since the 3rd game of his senior year, thats almost 2 full seasons of no football. That'd be hard for anyone to overcome, especially a small school player who is making a major jump. It'd be great if he turned out to be a surprise, but he's facing an uphill battle.

Given the history of our past drafts, especially in the later rounds, I don't have a lot of faith that he will pan out. I think the fans, myself included, are so desperate for a Woody Part 2, that we cling to any hope, no matter how small and make a below average player seem more.

were you guys (the ones who are down on Johnson) feeling this way when Bruce Carter was drafted? IIRC he didn't play for us his 1st year either due to injuries right?

And Carter still has yet to prove he can stay healthy.

Guys like Murray, Lee, Carter, etc are all 1st round talents that slipped because of injury questions. It's kinda like the Spagnola philosophy, if he's so good - why is he available?

I love all those guys, including Johnson - but they can't help us if they aren't on the field.

Trying to think of the coach or analyst, I think they were talking about Reggie Bush back in the day - 'I'd rather have an average player 16 games out the year, than a spectacular player 8 games out of the year.'

Suntan lotion?
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee
