But she has no control over that. Being a woman in what has been a mans domain will bring a lot of attention. Going from open wheel to NASCAR is a pretty big challenge. It has been rough for other open wheel drivers who have tried to make the switch.

I like Danica. I think she has legitimate talent. Of course she's way over hyped. So is Dale Jr.
She shouldn't be in the Cup series. She's not ready for it. She's driven a stock car one year. Even with the top equipment she's in (due to her gender), she will get dominated this year. May even cause a few incidents that take out real contenders. She was mediocre in her one season in Nationwide. She really should have started out in ARCA and developed her stock car skills before running with the big boys.
Those that really don't know the sport are very impressed by this pole. Those who follow the sport closely know this is the easiest place to qualify. You put your foot to the floor and steer. The driver is pretty much irrelevant. It's all motor and aero. Bet ya a beer she struggles to qualify outside of these plate races all year.
[View Full Quote]If I were one of those cup guys, I'd be scared to death to start that 500 with her up front. I wouldn't want any part of her around me in that race.

Some are impressed because she became the 1st woman to do so and in the meantime every other dirver was trying to win the pole themselfs so to act as if it means nothing is BS and this line about those who know the sport is a joke. As for her racing the Cup series she is only seeing limited time as other nationwide drivers have done and are currently doing. She has not been running the cup series full time and it is part of the learning that goes on in this sport.

I see her hype as being similar to Eldrick's who while the best of his generation for a number of years, was hyped something fierce at least partially because he was a black guy in a white sport. Kind of like the Williams boys in tennis.

What?
He was winning jr events, he was first golfer to win three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles. Turned Pro in 96 and by 97 became youngest player to win the Masters. Yes he was hyped and blew the field away he lived up to the hype and had 14 majors to back it and the 2nd most wins in PGA history. I think he has lived up to the so called hype.
Hating just to hate is pretty sad looking.

What she is doing is not easy but she has gone about this the right way running the nationwide series and well as the limited races on the sprint series and has the backing of guys like Earnhardt and Tony Stewart. Her peers seem to have more respect for her and that is what matters.
|
she was given one of the top cars and teams in the Nationwide Series for no other reason but she looks good in Go daddy commercials and she sucked so she's given one of the top cars in Sprint after one year. That's going about it the right way? Google Johanna Long if you want to see a woman going about it the right way. Where's her hype? Oh yeah, she doesn't strip half naked for pictures.

You don't think the fact he was a minority in a white sport had anything to do with it?

She has 7 top 10's on the nationwide in her 1st season. Montoya did not come into NASCAR winning right away either. These guys are not handing out top cars to just anyone if they did not feel she had the ability they would find someone who did. As for how she is coming up she went from Indy racing to nationwide just like her male counterparts have done and she is racing in limited events on the Cup series just like many of her male counterparts have done.
You may think she sucks they don't

No because he was winning Jr events at a very young age that is why he was being seen on talk shows as a child. As he got college he was highly sought after by the top colleges and when he was there he wins 3 US Amateur consecutively then in his 2nd year on the PGA wins his 1st major and goes on to win 14 total at this point?
Only 3 men in the history of the game have won double digits in Majors Jack Nicklaus with 18, Tiger with 14 and Walter Hagen won 11 all the other all time greats of the game like Hogan, Jones, Watson and a host of others are well behind what Tiger has accomplished.
Calling someone hyped and that person living up and exceeding the hype is pretty damn impressive. You may not like the guy but he is the best the game has ever seen.

She hasn't shown that at all. She didn't run up front at all last year in the Nationwide series. She won't run up front this year in the cup series. Heck, she won one race in all the years she drove the open wheel cars and she's always had great equipment simply because of her gender.

She's also the only woman to ever attempt to qualify for the 500 with Hendrick equipment. Her teammates also qualified right up front.
You can pretend it's an amazing feat, it's not. It's historical, but not really that impressive when you know the details.
She's in the cup series full time this year. She started her stock car career running full time Nationwide and selective cup races last year. That is way too ambitious. She's not ready and showed it last year. She would never be where she's at right now if not for being a woman.
She will not be in the top 20 in points this year. Maybe not even top 25. She's in over her head. Especially when she gets off the plate tracks and actually has to drive the car.

There hasn't been one open wheel driver in the modern era who came over to run one of these top two series that has been a success story. Montoya's about the best name you can mention and he hasn't won a thing outside of a couple of road course races.
Carpentier flamed out. Hornish flamed out and is now gaining experience back in Nationwide. I don't expect anything more from Danica. You can't expect to learn on the fly against the best in the business. She should have started in a lower series where her equipment advantage might have given her a chance to be competitive.

never stated it was an amazing feat but it is a big deal being the 1st to do something and while the equipment is very good it still takes skill to hit your marks at the speed they are traveling to post the time that she did. Everyone else was shooting for the top spot. As for what you think is too ambitious the reason she did not start in ARCA was because of experiance in the Indy racing league just as other open wheel drivers have done she is taking the same path as them.
How she may finish this season it is hard to say her best finish in cup was at Phoenix that is not a plate race and on Nationwide she finished 9th at Bristol and that sure as heck is not a plate race.

She could start by not filming anymore provocative Go Daddy commercials.
She's not a victim. She's usually her sexuality to keep her butt in that seat. While I think she has talent, she certainly doesn't have the on track performance to warrant such quality rides everywhere she's been.
Daniel Patrick would have a much tougher road.
