Default TheCount's Pre-Combine 1st Round Mock

1 Chiefs - Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Hard not to spend the 1st overall pick on a position other than QB when your #1 need is QB.

2 Jaguars - Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
Last in the league in sacks last year.

3 Raiders - Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
Could potentially lose both their starting DT's.

4 Eagles - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
Jason Peters is coming back from a pretty bad injury. At worst, one of them plays RT.

5 Lions - Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
They'd be overjoyed to have Moore here, as Cliff Avril is in a situation very similar to Anthony Spencer.

6 Browns - Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
They need a play maker on the defensive Front 7.

7 Cardinals - Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Their line, like our line, has been a debacle for years.

8 Bills - Matt Barkley, QB, Southern California
Their GM, Buddy Nix, is on record as saying they'd draft a franchise QB even after giving out a contract to Fitzpatrick.

9 Jets - Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU
I'm sure they'd love to add ANOTHER QB, but Barkley was taken right before them and thus saves them from themselves.

10 Titans - Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
They need o-line help, but Titans have a long history of favoring D help over O help.

11 Chargers - Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
Their line may be worse than ours, but unfortunately for them, the top 2 tackles are off the board.

12 Dolphins - Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
Sean Smith wants to get paid and Richard Marshall just had back surgery.

13 Buccaneers - Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon
They could really use a new, young CB after losing Talib to.. insanity and Barber to age, but they might favor pass rush over DB help in the 3-4 if they lose Bennett.

14 Panthers - Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
DT help is long overdue for the Panthers.

15 Saints - Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas
They'd love to add a sure fire 3-4 OLB, but their secondary is probably a bigger mess. I've got a feeling Vacarro is going to work out well at the combine and raise his stock just a bit more.

16 Rams - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
They should keep Amendola, but there's no reason he should be their #1 receiver. Patterson is healthier than Allen going into the draft and has tons of upside.

17 Steelers - Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Brigham Young
Ziggy Ansah replaces Ziggy Hood, who does not offer much in terms of a pass rush.

18 Cowboys - Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
With the top DT's and DE's off the board, Cowboys turn to improving the o-line.

19 Giants - Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
Considered a potential Top 15 prospect before the fake dead girlfriend saga, Giants are happy to land Te'o.

20 Bears - Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
Bears need some offensive line help badly, and with Te'o off the board - the decision is made for them.

21 Bengals - Alec Ogletree, OLB, Georgia
Ogletree drops because of his character concerns… but we all know the Bengals don't give a damn about character concerns.

22 Rams (from Redskins) - D.J. Fluker, Alabama
After landing a feature WR earlier in the 1st, the Ram's double dip on offense and bring in some oline help.

23 Vikings - Keenan Allen, WR, California
If word is true and they are trying to get rid of Percy, they will need a replacement unless they plan on forcing Ponder to keep throwing to just his tightened.

24 Colts - John Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Switching to the 3-4, so they acquire a key kog - the massive NT.

25 Seahawks - Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
Knowing Carrol, he'll probably end up making a big, unconventional splash here - but they do need some DT help.

26 Packers - Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
They played musical chairs with their RB situation all of last year, probably about time they addressed the position.

27 Texans - Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
Bradie James is starting opposite Cushing, time to get younger.

28 Broncos - Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
Like the Panthers, DT help is long overdue. Williams may not be much of a pass rush threat, but he'll free up their LB's.

29 Patriots - DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
They are playing hard ball with Welker.

30 Falcons - Alex Okafor, DE, Texas
They need a strong side DE, especially after releasing Ray Edwards. John Abraham has still got some juice but he's 35.

31 49ers - Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
They need quite a bit of DB help, so maybe they go Elam here but Banks is probably a better prospect at a more important position than SS.

32 Ravens - Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
Boldin's cap number is high and I'm sure they'll try to make something work, but if not, Austin is a rocket ship that's gonna wow at the combine and they will want to keep weapons around Flacco.

---------

Thoughts welcome, as always.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Biggest thing to me is I don't think there is a single round 1 QB in this draft but you have 2 going in the top 10 including first overall.

Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, and Christian Ponder all went in the top 12 a couple years ago

I think Locker's got potential, but I don't think much of Ponder. Anyway, the point is that even if Geno/Barkley don't deserve to be top 10 (or even 1st round) picks, it shouldn't be shocking if they are actually drafted that high.

No Richardson in Round 1?

Buffalo will not take Matt Leinart 2.0 with the 8th pick. If geno smith falls to them they may take him though.
I'd also be shocked if KC uses the 1st overall on Smith, but better odds of that than the Bils pick.

Don't be so sure, lots in flux with the Bill and their new HC may choose to start with a new QB. I don't like Barkley, but he's a better prospect than Blaine Gabbert was.

They want a guy with a strong arm in Buffalo. Barkley is not that guy. I think they'd take Glennon over Barkley. In either case, they should either trade down or wait until the 2nd round.

Anyway, I guess you can't be sure. Just my take

...but Gino going #1 overall? Wow....what has Reid said about him? I don't see KC doing this at all so we can agree to disagree. I think Smith is a 3rd rounder with the way he played down the stretch but I've been wrong before.

I'd be surprised if Gino did not go in the 1st round. I feel pretty sure that KC will not take him #1 overall though.

yea I think Reid is more likely to take Joekel and trade for Foles or Smith

I wouldn't be terribly upset with the Cooper pick unless Lane J was still on the board. Why on earth you pick a G in the first round when a T who's comparable in talent is still sitting there? Way harder, and more expensive, to find a starting T than a G.
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore
