Jerry has made it clear they don't want Romo to play on a one year deal, so it looks like we've already called our shot - so to speak.
Jerry may be a lot of things, but he's not disloyal. He's not going to talk up Romo like this and then draft a QB anyway. He probably doesn't even want to risk hurting Romo's feelings in that way.

I know it's a stretch when discussing Jerry, but teams like new England and Green Bay do not wait to draft a QB if the value is there--and they have better QBs than we have.
But I agree that this is not a great year to grab one unless it's very late and the value is too good to pass up. I'm not very fond of this class as a whole.

80-85? If it is a 6 or 7 year deal, you might want to add 30-40 million to that.

I do think no way they sign him for 6-7 years. That would be silly

Why would it be silly? Just cause they sign him for 6-7 doesnt mean he will play them. I can see Romo in Dallas for 4-5 more yrs. Tops

Whats the difference between 5-11 and 8-8? Oh yeah, we get worse draft position at 8-8.

Tom Brady just signed an extension for 3 years/27 million.....if that's what Brady signed for, Romo needs to take a pay cut..

Don't kid yourself; we're headed towards an exact repeat of the post Aikman years. When the wheels come off Romo, they're going to come off fast. If we don't have a contingency plan in place, look forward to another 3-4 years in the QB wasteland.

Wow, I just read the article. It lowers his cap hits by $15m over the next 2 years. That's a team friendly deal for sure. Brady, "That's not what makes me happy. In this game, the more one player gets, the more he takes away from what others can get. Is it going to make me feel any better to make an extra million, which, after taxes, is about $500,000? That million might be more important to the team.''

People can say what they want about Brady, but he is taking way less than he could get on the open market....again.
Of course, this deal provides guaranteed dollars until he is over 40 years old.
His last deal was done about the same time/age that Romo is doing this upcoming one. That deal was for very large numbers but still not the market buster it could have been.

So do I and I believe eventually we'll have to burn a 1st round pick if we want a star QB. My comment about taking a stab at one in the late rounds is not to say we should go the cheap route to find Romo's replacement. The comment means that I wouldn't mind seeing us use a 5th round pick or later on a QB because occasionally teams luck into a hidden gem with those late picks.
But as I mentioned, we're likely going to have to spend a first round pick if we want a real QB. Look around the league. Most of the productive QBs were taken with 1st or 2nd round picks. So I'm not a delusional guy who believes we can fill the most important position in team sports with cheap labor.
Only idiots like Jerry Jones think you can get away with cheap labor at QB.

The only difference is that Aikman gave us some SB wins and Romo hasn't come close. He is a talented guy and all, but you don't get better when you hit 33. That is the major issue I have with Romo, your body takes a toll with age and those skills that make Romo talented will start to erode, and then what? I was hoping that within the next year or 2 this team would start looking for a QB to take over and take us back to the promise land. Unfortunately I don't think Tony is that guy to get this team over the hump and carry a team when they need him the most or in a heavy pressure situation. Look just because you can't do that doesn't make you terrible it just means that other things have to be perfect for you to win. This team just doesn't have the talent across the board to be perfect for Tony. I think that if he gets a 4-5 year extension it's a huge mistake on managements part. This team will always be loyal even when the skills are gone and it's killed this franchise. I hate that they don't make it a priority to groom a guy It's like they are afraid that after a year or 2 he beats out Tony. Jerry you are too loyal to a fault.
RIP #53 Jerry Brown
If you talk the talk you better walk the walk! Go Cowboys!!! Love the 2013 draft!!

They say Tyler Bray is looking pretty good at the combine and he did put up some prolific numbers at UT.
I dont think he's projected in the 1st, I might would use a 2nd on him and let him learn from the sidelines.

Actually, the deal Brady just signed has $60 million guaranteed in it. That would be the equivalent of a $120 million type normal contract where most of the guaranteed money is in the signing bonus and first coulple of seasons base salary.
Brady did not take one for the team, he just got $60 million guaranteed. That type of contract is unheard of in the NFL, figures Brady would be the guy to get one of those.
This actually might increase what Romo and Flacco are wanting, certainly not going to make them take a paycut.
As the official head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett is 16-16............"Its a Process of stacking good days"
2013 Prediction: "NO PLAYOFFS"

So, you're saying that we should just dump Romo and be a 5-11 team at best, just so we can get a better spot in the draft? Ok, gotcha.

Maybe he's saying that, I dunno.
But the truth is that difference between 8-8 and 5-11 is minmal, except it'd be a few less enjoyable games.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.
