Default Brock Marion Released along with Hakim

One last stint in Dallas?

DETROIT LIONS RELEASE WR AZ-ZAHIR HAKIM AND S BROCK MARION; SIGN FREE AGENT DT BRANDON KENNEDY

(April 25, 2005) ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions announced today that they have released WR Az-Zahir Hakim and S Brock Marion. The team also announced that they have signed free agent DT Brandon Kennedy to a one-year deal. No additional contract terms were disclosed.

Hakim (5-10, 185) signed with the Lions March 7, 2002. He finished the 2004 season second on the team with 533 receiving yards despite missing four games due to injury. In 2003, Hakim returned from a hip injury suffered in 2002 and was the Lions' leading receiver in yards and touchdowns (449 yards; four touchdowns). He has 265 receptions for 3,555 yards and 26 touchdowns while playing in 92 games (37 starts) in seven NFL seasons. Hakim was originally drafted in the fourth round (96th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.

Marion (5-11, 200) joined the Lions prior to last season, signing with the team March 25, 2004. He finished second on the squad with 112 total tackles and three interceptions while starting all 16 games for Detroit in 2004. Before joining the Lions, Marion spent six seasons (1998-03) with the Miami Dolphins and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad three times (2000, 2002-03). Marion was originally selected in the seventh-round (196th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he was a part of two Super Bowl Championship teams. He has 1,133 career tackles (774 solo) and has played in 182 games (154 starts) in 12 NFL seasons.

Kennedy (5-10, 350) comes to Detroit after originally signing with Denver as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2004 NFL Draft. He spent the 2004 preseason with the Broncos before being released Sept. 1.

As a senior at North Texas in 2003, Kennedy was the Sun Belt Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team all-conference selection after leading the conference with 23 tackles for loss and finishing fifth with six sacks. He was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Dallas Morning News and was a first team all-state selection by the Associated Press after a standout senior season at Terrell High School in Dallas, Texas.

I have to think that Marion would make at least a good one year stop gap unless they're enamored with someone else taking hold of the spot.

Yep sign Marion up..A Veteran presence back there with Roy is what we need , just to make sure that these young guys might actually stand up and do something..

Marion was terrible last year. We are better with Lynn Scott. He is through! Akim is injury prone and as a matter of fact, he has yet to complete a full season with the Lions.

112 tackels and 3 Int's is far beyond what we got out of FS or SS last year.

Marion is a good cover safety if he has any speed left.

He is obviously not a good long term guy but could be a stop gap.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

Brock is not a bad guy for Justin to learn from. Maybe teach him how to defend that star cause Roy seems to have no intrest in it.

I would definitely think you would know. I would suspect that since you are from Detroit, you would know better than the rest of us.

Is Hakim worth anything as a #4? Does he return punts anymore?

I want Hakim here. We do need a 4th or potential 3rd and he could be it.

Exactly - we got the $, a one yr contract won't/can't hurt.

There is no formula for success except an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.
