Default ESPND: Flacco highest paid in NFL history

Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a six-year contract worth $120.6 million that makes Flacco the highest paid player in NFL history, a source familar with deal told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The two sides will work on the contract language throughout the weekend and Flacco is expected to sign the deal Monday in Baltimore, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Drew Brees is currently the highest paid player in the NFL, averaging $20 million per year.

Flacco played out his rookie contract last season for $6.76 million.

Capping a perfect postseason, the unassuming and unheralded Flacco completed 22-of-33 passes for 287 yards and three first-half touchdowns, earning Super Bowl MVP honors for leading the Ravens to a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Wow, I expected it to be a good sized deal but nothing like this. Romo and his camp were waiting on this deal, they have to like the results.

yowza.

I really did not expect it to be that big; though the details on the guaranteed money is what matters.

This deal is just insane to me. Had he not went on that playoff run he is would have gotten about 13 million per season.

I never thought Balt would cave into the highest paid QB pressure from the agent. They will lose a few good players because of this. I guess another Super Bowl cures all problems.

He is officially overpaid.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I know. They had no business even getting past Denver except for that fluke play.

it always takes some luck though.

Now that is just absurd. If I had to pick between the two, I would pick Romo over Flacco.

Flacco has benefited from that great defense throughout his career and now he will be the highest paid QB. Just absurd.

This time next year, Aaron Rodgers' new contract will easily top this one.

It's just odd even mentioning Flacco and Rodgers in the same contract hemisphere, but that's today's NFL.

The Packer GM has to just HATE this. Rodgers easily is better than Flacco by any measurement.

Rodgers contract is going to be NUTS.

I can picture the tantrum being thrown in Brees' living room right now. Insane contract for a good qb. Definitely overpaid...

It's crazy him getting that money. If you floated that figure miseason people would have laughed. Now he has to lead the team with Lewis retiring.
