March 4th, what will happen?

I keep hearing some decisions have to be made tomorrow, such as tag on Spencer, Sensy cut or keep and Dan Connor?

Is there anyone else that a decision had to be made on tomorrow? I would think tomorrow there will be some action going on at VR.

Any predictions?

Mine are No tag for Spencer. Sensy, Connor, Spears all get walking papers tomorrow.

I just do not see how our team can afford to part ways with Spencer. We have not done a great job in reality drafting recently, but somehow we can afford to let Spencer.....a #1 draft pick walk with nothing in return.

Color me stupid.......I would keep him.

I am on the fence with Spencer, but I do think we will not place the tag on him and he will test the market. Someone will overpay him and he will probably be in a new uniform next year. Could be wrong, but that's my prediction.

I agree with you 100 percent, and we will be left trying to fill a huge void with a FA willing to play DE at a discount rate........unreal

He's going to demand a big contract and I don't want to shell out more big bucks for a guy who really only performed that great this past year. I'll be happy to resign him but not too upset if he goes elsewhere

I just hope we go after a very good FA replacement.

Coach Garrett and Mr. Jones are very smart and I am sure they have a top secret plan so us fans just need to remain patient.

2009 draft was a travesty...but I think we have drafted well since then. The 2011 draft in particular is amazing.

2010 and 2011 were both very good drafts. A lot of good starters from those classes already. 2012 is still TBD, but it doesn't help that we picked D players for a scheme we longer run.

But I just don't want to see Spencer back at 10+ million when we have a bunch of other holes to fill. Especially when I don't think hes a particularly great fit for the new system. A bigger DE opposite Ware would certainly be preferred. We don't necessarily need another speedy edge rusher. Maybe a rotational guy, but someone to set the edge and be tough against the run would be ideal for most downs. I'm not sure Spencer will be that guy in a 4-3 when the RT's will be able to get their hands on him right away. Hes much better in space.

Some of the better defenses in the league this year that ran the 4-3 started some big DE's

Broncos- Derek Wolfe- 300 lbs
Bears- Julius Peppers- 285 lbs
Seattle- Red Bryant- 320 lbs
Cincinnati- Carlos Dunlap- 280 lbs

I think Tyrone Crawford should get a real look there to be honest. Hes very athletic for a man his size.

If we had the $ I would also but the guy is going to warrant $10/yr on a 5 year deal. I rather let him go a year earlier than later at that price.

We would also probably get a 3rd round compensatory pick once he moves on since he was a 1st rounder and starter.

Jenkins and Felix possibly 3rd and/or 4th round compensatory picks as well.

All 3 were 1st rounders but at this point take what you can get in these circumstances.

Maybe get a high end OT and safety in FA with the saved $ not signing Spencer.

Then draft 1 of the 2 dominant interior OL in the 1st and BPA at DT or DE for the d-line in the 2nd.

Also draft another safety or OLB in the 3rd to compete for a starting job or be a dependable back up/rotational player.

Like this we are managing the cap, found 4 quality starters and at least 1 player that can rotate and start if the player ahead of them goes down.

This draft has tremendous value at picks 50 - 80. The defensive line has more talent than any other area in this draft as well.

Even if we have to use next years 4th to move up in the 3rd to get that guy that dropped out of the 2nd that we valued there, I would do it in a heart beat.

We should be getting 2-3, 3rd-5th round compensatory picks anyways losing Spencer, Jenkins and Felix in FA.

If they can afford to franchise him and can't reach a reasonable deal, then it seems like a no brainer to do it.

Pros of Doing it:
- Why invest in him long-term at what I would assume is premium dollars when he is reverting a 4-3 DE which he has not done full-time since college.
- He hits 30 next year and teams start getting less willing to pay top dollar at that point.
- If a team wants him and is willing to pay his contract demands, they will call with a trade.

Cons:
He could end up being highly productive through 35 and Dallas ends up drafting an underwhelming replacement.

Honestly, I really don't see the downside of franchising him if they have the Cap room. Leverage in negotiations shifts to the Cowboys at that point. He can't want to hit the market at 30.

HE would not like it. His value will NEVER be more then it is now. There is no way he would want to gamble that his next season will be as good as his last one and of course there is the injury concern. He would NOT want to be franchized- and he will be a year older and past that dreaded 30 mark.
