Jerry thinks we have a chance at winning the whole thing too.

Don't see how we're in contention with San Fran, Seahwaks, Packers, Atlanta in the NFC and the Pat's and Broncos in the AFC.

Sorry, just don't.

We were competitive against ATL and BAL. Not so much vs. SEA. I don't think people understand how much parity there is.

Well you might be right about Jerry, but Stephen Jones is very well respected league wide. Parcells was a big fan as well.

The Cowboys added $321,250K to Scandrick's bonuses for the remaining 4 years and as result it will cost them an extra $321,250K to cut him.

I will update my other thread with the figures cost to keep vs cost to cut.

The front office choose to restructure all of these smaller contracts in order to prevent large sums of money being offset into the proration of the signing bonuses.

There are essentially two ways to do it:

#1 - You look at a few players on your roster and identify the guys with huge salaries. By reducing their salary to the vet minimum and prorating the rest to the signing bonus on the remaining years of the contract you can save the cap charges immediately.

#2 - You do the above for a lot of players that have smaller contracts where the cap chargers in the future years are not being raised by millions so therefore cutting the player isn't an issue.

The front office went by route #2. By restructuring the other guys with the smaller contracts they committed smaller amounts of money to the future years if they are cut before their contracts are up.

Your still adding money to the proration portion of their signing bonuses but it isn't millions per year but instead less than $400K per year.
"It's little bit like the description of pornography from years back. It's hard to define it. But you know what it is at the end of it. It's hard to define it. I think you know who is more physical. Often times you see that in the fourth quarter. A lot of time the team on the other side feels it. We pride ourselves on being a physical football team. It's important to us. It's an important time of the year to lay that foundation." - Coach Garrett

That's what happens when you dole out a bunch of bad contracts and pull off idiotic trades. All a Cowboy has to do is show a little promise and Stephen and Jerry rush to sign them to long term extensions.

It also doesn't help that our drafts have largely stunk over the last 5 years. If you can't draft well you have to make up for the poor drafts by overspending in free agency.

That's how the Cowboys have gotten into trouble.

True......but there is something missing in Dallas.

It's a mixture of several things. I don't think Garrett is capable of out-coaching any of the playoff coaches. His limitations were on full display throughout the entire 2012 season. The offense looked unprepared and disorganized in the first half of almost every game. That's a HUGE red flag that the offensive coaching staff is flawed.

Aside from Garrett those other teams have full time GMs while Dallas is saddled with a part time GM/pitchman/celebrity-owner/promoter/businessman.

Also, I have to question if football is the #1 priority in Dallas. A few players who have left the Cowboys have made comments indicating that football is taken more seriously at their new location.
