I mean this is a backup qb that is eating up a good chunk of cap space that probably could start in Arizona or Buffalo or...........? Definitely a luxury this team cannot afford.

There could be a good case for playing Orton and trading Romo too. I just think that Romo's mobility makes the line look better than it really is.

Dallas should also spend a reasonably high pick on a QB to groom post Romo IMO.

Speculation: But he could very well have a no trade clause in his contract. Otherwise I think he would have been in play already.

They are not tight against the cap because of Orton. He's a very fine back up in the event that Romo goes down for a game or two. Orton has a real shot at getting that extra win you need.

No team is going to give much for Orton.

He's not a "franchise QB" and other teams know that.

Buffalo for instance just got rid of an "Orton-type" of QB. They probably aren't anxious to get another.

any team that could use Orton as a starter would be in rebuild mode, so they won't want to give up any picks.

Though it'd be nice, and I think talent-wise he's probably about a 3rd rounder, there's no way we'd be able to get that for him.

It is fair to say 2009 Jon Kitna is of the caliber of 2013 Kyle Orton. And the trade there was for Anthony Henry. So the answer is likely we couldn't get much value for him.

I like Orton just fine, but he is not an upgrade over Fitzpatrick. Of course, it wouod be more cost effective for Buffalo. I think in today's league there are many teams that woudl take Tavarias Jackson over Orton anyway. Plus, you have to assume Buffalo will take a QB sometime in the early rounds of the draft.

Orton is still fairly young though.

I echo the sentiments of the others above... don't think you can get much for him.

How much is he getting paid? Isn't he one of the highest paid back ups?

Orton contract is not that big to begin with. He is a reliable vet player who can come in on a moment notice. Nothing wrong with grooming a young QB but before you get rid of something you better have something else in place.

Draft a QB then groom and look to move Orton you don't ditch what you have until you get something to replace it.

The Bills cutting Fitzpatrick had something to do with owing him about 10 million bucks this year, too.

I'd definitely trade Orton. But Jerry won't. Why? Same reason he never trades vets like that -- there's a chance we might get hot and make that Superbowl run, and that backup might be needed for us.

Of course, just like Jenkins last year, that never happens, and we never gain any draft picks or any other advantage in a system driven to parity.

For what? A 6th rounder?

Now, if it created cap space to get a free agent or something, then fine. But there's no trade value to an old backup quarterback.
