Default Who is this year's 1st round bust?

A couple of years ago I thought it would be Ashley Lelie and up until 2004 he hadn't done much.

This year I look at Alex Smith. If he'd have come out last year IMO he'd have been the 4th QB taken. Add that to the fact that 1st round QBs don't always make it and I think we have a huge potential to bust. Even if he has an average career, being taken #1 carries with it the expectations of being a superstar ala Peyton Manning.

Below Smith I think you can look to players like Matt Jones - changing positions and taken way too high, Jason Campbell - 'skins trade up for a player they could have had in the 2nd round and Troy Williamson - a guy coming from a school that didn't throw the ball a lot and is still raw in his technique.

I have no clue but I hope it isn't Ware or Spears.

My votes among the very highly drafted guys are for Cedric Benson and PacMan.

I wonder about Benson and if his fumbling will carry over to the pros.

well....I don't think Matt Jones can be a bust until a few years from now because no one is expecting great things in his first year....so....I'm going with Smith....the 49ers probably tried desperately to unload that pick. Considering the cost, even if he turns out to be decent, it's still WAY too much to pay.

Couldn't happen to a better team...
RIP Santiago

Travis Johnson. No doubt in my mind.

I also think Matt Jones will be a huge disappointment too.

Do you think that if TJ had gone to a team that runs a 4-3 it'd be different?

I think all the QB's chosen in round one will be busts...Alex Smith is going to be a mega bust

others:

Pac Man Jones...Erasmus James...Travis Johnson...Matt Jones...Roddy White

David

A new era begins

No.

I just think he has all kinds of issues. He just fits the bust profile to me.

1st round bust = Matt Jones
Cowboy Underdog for 2007: Patrick Watkins

I agree with many of the choices already listed.

I also think that Rolle isn't going to be that great of a CB. I think he'll be okay, but not what you expect from that point in the first round.

Personally, I think he'd be a knockout FS, but as a CB I just don't think he has really any special qualities.
