Why not the colts drafted a kicker this year and told him they expect him to be ready in 06 to take over for Mike V. and if he does well this MiniCamp why not Release Mike and save the 1.8 mil in salary? This is his final year under contract.

After two days of waiting, Michigan State kicker Dave Rayner didn't even see the Indianapolis Colts pick him in the sixth round of Sunday's NFL draft.
The snow knocked out the cable at the Rayners' Oxford home 15 minutes before his name popped up on ESPN, but no one cared because the Colts had called him right before submitting their pick.
"I'm very happy," Rayner said after being selected No. 202 overall, one spot after teammate DeAndra Cobb. "I wanted to go to Indianapolis from day one. I went to the combine, kicked there and loved it."
Colts officials told Rayner he would spend this year kicking off with an eye toward taking over the placekicking job after this season when Mike Vanderjagt's contract expires.
"They flat-out said, we want you and we hope you can be the guy here for your career," said Rayner, who also worked out for the Colts in East Lansing.
Rayner was the second placekicker selected, after Ohio State's Mike Nugent, who went to the New York Jets in the second round at No. 47 overall.

POPS I wouldn't call you out...I was just wanting to show it was possible. but I agree its not probabale. I would love it if he were cut and we got him but I'm not holding my breath...
If he and Corey Chavous (SP) were both released which would you want more? One could win a game for you and the other could save a game for you. I'd take Corey....

If we somehow sign Edinger, I can't wait for the prediction he becomes a huge REDZONE threat at WR. Defense thinks he's running the other way, he swings around and gets open for the TD. Hybrid kickers are on the way!
:shootme:
Now seriously, I say sign the guy if he's even willing to come here. Competition never hurt anybody. If Edinger kicks better than Billy, then fine. If Cundiff outplays Edinger, nothing changes. No harm no foul if you ask me.

No problem I was just pulling your leg.
If Corey is released bring him in here....Cundiff needs some competition.

Something from PFW
I'm not sure he'd be worth the roster spot to compete with Cundiff.

Newly signed Bears PK Doug Brien was the clear-cut winner over incumbent PK Paul Edinger in a kicking competition to close Saturday's team minicamp practice session. And on Sunday, the Bears cast their lot with Brien by releasing Edinger, who becomes a free agent and can sign with any team. On Saturday, Brien nailed 6-of-7 FG attempts, his lone miss a 50-yarder that hit the right upright. Edinger missed 3-of-7 attempts, missing wide right from 38, 43 and 50 yards. There is speculation that the Vikings, who bid for the then-restricted free agent Edinger last year, could sign him to compete with Aaron Elling for their placekicking job.

If the Vikings want him, I say, "go Vikes!"
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

This is a real bad idea.
Think about it this way. The Bears let this guy go because they signed Brien.
Brien...the guy who pretty much single-handedly torpedoed the Jets season.
I was thrilled when the Bears signed Brien becasue it meant the there was no way he'd end up here. Believe me, I was relieved. he's not even as good a Cundiff.
Now, some want to bing in a guy who lost his job the Brien? Yikes!

I would take a look at Edinger.
Chicago is not called the windy city for nothing. Also gets a lot colder up there.
Harder to kick
I wouldn't say I would give him a contract ,but never hurts to not leave a stone unturned.

Yeah, plus Edinger has always been solid in FFL. I just want Cundiff to have to fight for his job.
