Happy Birthday Lance Shulters To Be A Cowboy?

Lance Shulters

Teams Interested
Falcons?
Cowboys

May. 23 - According to the Houston Chronicle, the Titans do, indeed, plan to release Schulters after June 1. Previous reports out of Nashville indicated Schulters was staying away from offseason workouts, both to rehab his injured foot and to protect his market value in case the team decided to release him.

"We are going to hold him out until his fate is decided one way or the other," Schulters' agent, Brian Levy, told The Tennessean. "Obviously both sides wouldn't want to see him get hurt at this point. He could practice if need be, but I don't think it is in anyone's better interest for him to partake in the activities. ... He is not going to take a risk." Schulters has been mentioned all spring as a possible June 1 salary-cap cut from the Titans, and ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli has heard rumblings that Atlanta might be interested in signing him if Tennessee turns him loose. The veteran safety played for Falcons coach Jim Mora in San Francisco before signing with the Titans, and the Falcons have a need at the position after releasing Cory Hall. The Houston report also mentioned Dallas as a possible landing spot for Schulters.

I wonder how bad his foot injury is at this stage?

Is he even expected to be 100% healthy by the start of the season?

Isn't he 30 + years old? Doesn't he have foot problems. Doesn't he play a position where 30+ year old, foot problem players have difficulty? Just say no!

not sure why the hoopla over this guy...just another case of "big name-itis" thats so prevelent on this forum...does anyone realize he hasnt intercepted a pass in 22 games? thats the last 22 games PLAYED...he also doesnt have many passes defensed in his career...he has two seasons where he got 6 picks, but 4 where he got NONE...including 16 starts in 2003 where he got ZERO

not sure he's THAT much a better option than anything here...if he's 100% and comes cheap maybe I could see it...otherwise, not all that interested

David

don't need him

Every media source will link any free agent safety with the Cowboys.

Personally, I'd rather develop the guys we have than bring in a big name that's damaged goods and getting a little old.

Maybe he's a shut down free saftey and no one throws his way.

<Sarcasm off>

But you are right. I agree we don't need to start getting all infatuated with names who can't play.

I can dig that. I hope he can pick up the schemes this year. Would be next to impossible to ask him to be a leader out there on the range but......one never knows. I'm pulling for this guy.

Speaking of old broken down players..

what has Todd Steussie got left? Supposedly (according to Bruce Allen)he is not going to be under any sanctions at all for the steroid thing...because of his co-operation I guess. Several sites including the Washington Times mention him as a very possible cap induced cut next week.

He can play both tackle positions. Anyone know how he performed in Tampa?

In light of the Tucker Doghouse.....

I didn't think Tucker was even going to make it out of camp this year. I like the Petitti kid. At this point I'm thinking Vollers first and Petitti second.

If we had a legit chance at being a SB team I would sign Steussie in a second but we're not. Let's see if Vollers or Petitti can become an above-average right tackle and hold down the position for the next half-dozen seasons. Then we can go into next year's draft taking care of WR, DT and potentially FS.

You're right Mike about developing Pettitti and Vollers, and Rogers too.

But my idea of a must-have on ANY depth chart is a vet swing tackle, in any year.

I don't disagree Barb.

Having a QB back there who isn't adept at avoiding the rush certainly places a premium on our tackles.

I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that Rogers can turn it around and give us a little something.
