Wow only 4 years in the league and he is long in the tooth yeah that is too bad.

Given his dedication to the weights this offseason, and going an entire offseason through the mini camps and training camp and preseason there really isn't any question he will have an impact on our team this year. We won't be in such dire straights if Key or Terry go down for a couple of games this year.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Default Quincy Morgan impresses Parcells.

Quincy Morgan: Impresses Parcells

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com

Monday, May 30, 2005

Update: Coach Bill Parcells still thinks Morgan can be a productive NFL
receiver, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Recommendation: "He really did a good job of getting into our off-season program here," Parcells said. "He did a good job of improving his strength and his body type a little bit, and I think it is showing up on the field here." The Cowboys also spotted a flaw in Morgan's catching technique, which they think they've corrected. Although he's only #3 on the depth chart, Dallas needs a big year from Morgan -- so far, the indications are positive.

Parcells still hopes Morgan's a catch
By MATT MOSLEY / DallasNews.com

IRVING – The Cowboys passed on taking a receiver in last month’s draft, which had a lot to do with the team’s deficiencies on defense.

But coach Bill Parcells' hope that third receiver Quincy Morgan is ready to make an impact was another factor.

Morgan, who came over to the Cowboys in last season’s trade for troubled receiver Antonio Bryant, wants to show the consistency that has eluded him his first four seasons in the league. On the third day of minicamp Sunday, Parcells talked about Morgan’s progress.

“He really did a good job of getting into our off-season program here,” Parcells said. “He did a good job of improving his strength and his body type a little bit, and I think it is showing up on the field here.”

Parcells has insisted that receivers such as Morgan, Terry Glenn and Terrance Copper have the speed to make plays downfield. The problem for Morgan has been catching the ball.

The Cowboys identified a flaw in the way he positions his hands when making catches. They hope that by making sure he puts the correct hand on top, he won’t have as many drops.

“He’s pretty tough,” Parcells said of the Garland, Texas, native. “I kind of like the kid. I really do."

Best collision of Sunday: Free-agent rookie receiver Jamaica Rector, a Celeste, Texas, native, was looking for the ball when safety Roy Williams cut in front of him to pick off a Drew Bledsoe pass. In the process, Williams accidentally decked the 5-10, 189-pound Rector.

Rector returned to the huddle. Williams appeared to be shaken up for a few moments.

Best fight of minicamp: In Sunday’s afternoon practice, players rushed to the scene of an altercation during team drills. Left tackle Flozell Adams had to be separated from rookie free-agent defensive tackle Thomas Johnson.

Parcells spoke to Adams a few minutes later but didn’t appear to be upset.

Parcells: Romo slightly ahead of Henson
Though it’s way too early to call, Parcells said third-year quarterback Tony Romo has a “slight” advantage over Drew Henson when it comes to knowing the Cowboys system.

Romo, who received a two-year contract worth nearly $2 million this off-season, and Henson will compete for the backup job behind Bledsoe.

“I think it’s going to play itself out this summer,” Parcells said. “I really do. That’s gonna be one of the easier things to decide because we’re going to give them so many reps.”

Henson played the first half of last season’s Thanksgiving game against the Bears. Romo hasn't taken a snap in a regular-season game.

Default Time will tell, but

Quincy Morgan was a flat out stud in college. He was borderline dominating. He has speed and size. If he gets on a roll he could be a real weapon.

Romo being ahead of Henson at this point isn't a priority. The offense is pretty much in stone. Morgan has an opportunity to upend Johnson or Glenn and dominate for the 'Boys.

Romo being slightly ahead of Henson is pedantic babble.

I guess because Parcells has said not to read too much into it, Camp will determine which guy steps into the #2 spot. The job is not going to be won or loss in the press but on the field.

again i say, 4 years in the league, but already 28 years old. that's old for a WR who hasn't proven himself yet.

I agree, but if Morgan can come out and have a great year that is all that really matters. Nothing can be done to change the past for Morgan but there is something he can do to help this team here and now. Hopefully the work and conditioning he has put in this off-season will benefit him and the team.

He had 56 catches for 964 yds and 7 TDs with a 17+ YPC average at age 24.

While that won't get him into Canton, those are not exactly Randal Williams numbers either.

He doesn't need to be a superstar here this year, just a consistent enough deep threat to make teams pay for doubling Glenn or Key.
