I wish the Cowboys would take a page out of their book.
Maybe Bledsoe will pan out, who knows.

Can they win 7 games with Losman?
Thats a big, big assumption to make.
They finished one game outta the playoffs with Bledsoe and kept fans interested.
I doubt they do that this year. Bledsoe is far from the be all end all of QBs but he is a real QB. Losman is a theory written in invisible ink on combustible paper. A bad OL and a young QB often = short career for said QB.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

There's a chance Losman tanks... if that's the case, I'd have wanted Bledsoe waiting in the wings. They jettisoned their insurance and I'm not sure why. There might have been some locker room tension between those two.

Well... they did bring in Kelly Holcomb...

SOME BILLS THOUGHT BLEDSOE SHOULD STAY
We're hearing that there was a difference of opinion in the Buffalo front office regarding whether to give former starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe the hook after the 2004 season.
It was, we're told, a move made by G.M. Tom Donahoe and coach Mike Mularkey, and that not all members of the front office wanted to yank him. The thinking was that Bledsoe can still throw, and that the team's offensive line generally sucked during his tenure.
We're also hearing that there are concerns as to whether the successor to Bledsoe, J.P. Losman, will pan out. Per one source, it's a 50-50 proposition at best as to whether he'll make it. Even if he does, he might only be "adequate at best" as a starting quarterback.
|
I'd believe that very easily. There's no way to evaluate Losman with Bledsoe around. I think they did the right thing to find out what they had and cut some costs while giving Losman the confidence he needed without looking over his shoulder.
Puts the Bills out on a limb though. Balsy move by them. Hope it pans out for them.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

I have a hard time believing this at all. If Donahoe and Mularkey wanted Bledsoe out, who does that leave that didn't? Asst GM Tom Modrak? The janitor at 1 Bills Drive? "The Bills front office" isn't the size of George Bush's Cabinet. The QB coach Sam Wyche loves Losman. So who are these nameless front office Bledsoe supporters? Inquiring minds want to know. As for Losman, sure he's a gamble. But he's a 1st round pick and he's got to play. Just look at Eli Manning being put in for Warner in NY. In the short haul that looked dumb, but NY, just like Buffalo is biting the bullet and doing what they know the economics of the situation require- play the young QB. Is Eli going to be a star? Jury's still out on that one.

That's like alot of new employers. They come in, evaluate the situation, and then make moves to find the folks that fit their standards.
There was also some article that mentioned that Bledsoe would go off and do his own thing contrary to what the coaches wanted. Yet another reason they went w/Losman is so they could mold him according to their wishes and desires.
So while some may have wanted him to stay, the folks in charge didn't and that's all that matters.

M., it's like this...
The Pittsburgh game and Drew's miserable performance cemented his departure. The team and the fan based were crushed at how "small" he came up.
Pittsburgh played "scrubs" throughout the defense and Drew had a horrible day. Most felt his decision making was faulty at best.
LaTuna has said that Drew has a little coach-killer in him... well I think Mularky and Donahoe felt their future was more secure with Losman. Which on one hand is a scary thought. On the other it sort of protects them because the expectations of the team aren't going to be that high due to using starting of Losman at QB.

This is what I've been saying all along about Bledsoe. The game summary for the Pittsburgh loss was absolutely brutal. I got the feeling that the coaches just lost all faith in him to get the job done. Everything I've read about Losman in the Bill's papers has been positive, they actually feel that they'll be able to open up their offense now that Bedsore is gone. That's why I say I don't like him with his career .503 winning percentage which translates to an 8-8 life-time record, which is exactly what Parcells says he didn't want, an 8-8 quarterback. It's the inconsistency in what BP says he believes in and what he does makes me question his judgement.

Wasn't that the game the defense allowed Pitt to score 28 points? The vaunted Bills defense? I believe Bills had 24 on the board that one.
That was a team bad effort, not all on Drew. I watched it.
Drew is A Cowboy - must sux Mikey. You only get to exult if we fail regarding Drew. EVEN WORSE YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CREDIT OUR 3-4 DEFENSE!

Well said and very accurate. Yes Drew is a ".500". For him to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs everything else on this team is going to have to "click". I'm guessing the defense is going to have to be in the top ten and the running game also. If the passing game ranks 15-20, we'll be OK. But if the wheels comes off somewhere we're looking at 8-8.

Nors I agree. The Buffalo defense did not play well. But unfortunately the whole focus of the failure fell on the shoulders of Mr. Bledsoe. Right, wrong or indifferent... that's how it worked. And the fact was Drew played miserably in that game. It ensured his ticket out of town. I'm hoping we don't have to count on Drew Bledsoe to make the playoffs the last game of the season. I've seen his act and I'm not impressed.

Yup - you were also not impressed with his 4,500 yard All Pro Season in 2002.
You are jaded on subject.

How do you know they cant?
I see this as addition by subtraction. You must get the quarterback position settled if you want your team contending for playoff spots and titles on a regular basis, history shows us that.
They let the young quarterback sit for a year and now they are going to make him earn his contract. They will probably take a step back, just depends on the offensive philosophy that is employed there.
I like this move. The Cowboys have not drafted a quarterback in the 1st round since 1989. I think it is time to consider such a novel idea at Valley Ranch.
I love this move by the Bills. I give it
As far as some players wanting Bledsoe back, alot of players out right hated Steve Young when he eventually replaced Montana. One player in particular actually attacked him.
As you know, he was just inducted into the PFHOF.
